hi there

>> No.8636708

i got the collection and beat the first 2 games so far. the first one is pretty hard because if you lose your lives you dont get them back and you can no longer try the mission again, so you pretty much have to reload the game whenever you lose all your lives and practice the stage until you can beat it without dying. the second game was easier in comparison, though the boss rush at the end is still tough.

>>8636701
He's the hardest boss in that whole game. God damn does it ever feel amazing and rewarding when you finally kill that motherfucker.
If anyone knows any trick to making the fight against him easier, please do tell, that boss is the only reason I haven't replayed MMZ2 on the MMZ collection on Switch.

So annoying. There is no good reason for these, the story wasn't even good. I used savestates on the final boss in Z1 partly because it has the longest cutscene in the entire game.

>unskippable cutscenes
Definitely the biggest flaw with these games. Zero series is probably the best Mega Man series when it comes to gameplay, but the cutscenes are super annoying. As for grinding your weapons to upgrade them, it's not really a big deal but I'm glad they removed that mechanic in Zero 3.

Even though the first game's gameplay is the least developed, I like the story/art/overall mood a lot. It keeps the scenario simple without getting stuck up its own butt with dumb lore. I like the sketchier character portraits and decayed background scenery, which better conveys the sense of an exiled resistance hiding in a wasteland.

I remember beating the first two ones (never played the others) with barely any upgrades. I just couldn't handle the heavy grinding for an elf to give me something useful. Maybe there's a way to speed that up. Never looked into it.

I had trouble as a child but because I had infinite free time as a child I just grinded all my weapon levels. the difficulty scaling is rather weird. some later levels are quite a bit easier than earlier ones, and you only get certain upgrades if you are good at the game.

I can't bring myself to try out any of the other Zero games because the first one was so frustrating. The life system alongside with missions getting permanently locked if you fail is one of the worst design choices I have ever seen on a Mega Man game.

I really don't get this approach.

>Be bad at the game
Then get no upgrades and help, making everything harder.

>Be good at the game
Here's a lot of upgrades, but since you're so good, now everything's a cinch.

In the end, whether you're good or not, you're bound to be bored by the difficulty.

It's not exactly like that. If you're not good at the game you can always use cyber elves to help you out, although it'll tank your rank. And when you're good at the game and have a lot more moves and special attacks to use as a result of beating the bosses at a high rank, going through the levels is really fun. At least for me anyway. The upgrades don't really make the game a "cinch" either, it still requires your own skill and reflexes to beat it. So unless you get bored of a game the moment you get good at it, I don't see the issue at all. It's more balanced than you think.

>> No.8639628

The Zero games, particularly the first two but especially the first one, are probably the most challenging Megaman games in terms of difficulty. Don't feel bad.

All the upgrades you earn from being good at the game can be turned off whenever you feel like it.

It's reward for being good at it. None of it is necessary to beat the game, though. It's designed so that you replay it and get better, which works since it was a handheld title. The devs didn't expect you to be good at it from just one playthrough.

They're useful and more fun to play with, but they're not as powerful as in the X games. The equippable chips will add elemental weakness bonuses to both regular charged attacks and their corresponding boss skills.

I never understood the appeal of the Megaman franchise.
Unlike the other mainline golden age of nintendo games (Zelda, SMB, etc..) MM games seemed to be almost entirely based on rote memorization of enemies and there's very little room to improv.
The "platforming" is rudimentary, the locations almost entirely bland, the game loop tedious etc...

Can someone explain to me why it got so popular?
