how do you stop from feeling like a pretentious jackass from playing old ass games everyone already beat like 25 years ago?

By also playing new ass games. Pigeon holing yourself into any specific era of video games is retarded.

Why should I give even the slightest of fucks about what other people have or have not done? I enjoy games, so I play games.

The objective is to enjoy your time playing the games.

You know, in my experience the internet makes it seem like everyone is a master of every single game genre but in reality people usually master a few specific games and casually play the rest
>have a friend who has played megaman x so much we all watched him beat the bosses wearing a blindfold.
>play him at MVSC
>he gets destroyed
>"sorry im not very good at this game"
Everyone has their wheelhouse. I like the "pick random game" button on lauchbox until I find something im feeling.

That was never really part of the equation for me, thankfully. Most of these old-ass games came out before I was born. I also don't shy away from playing new games
