What the fuck, how is PC generating more revenue than consoles? Does it really have that many more free-to-play, pay-to-win games? I thought they made them for all formats. Or is that the case, and the old pay-to-play games just don't generate the same revenue?

In the 80s, 8-bit and 16-bit computers were sold at a huge profit margin. C64 retailed for $595 even though they only cost around $150 per unit to manufacture. The Amiga 1200 was $1285 despite containing only like $250 worth of parts. Not to mention the data cassette, floppy, printer, monitor, and other add-ons. And there were computer game devs, who didn't need to pay huge comission fee to their publishers or the cart production, unlike console cucks. They sold $15 games on less than 50 cent floppy disks.

Maybe in the past, but not anymore. Sure they have muh RTX and muh 4K or whatever, but the best selling, most popular PC games will always be toasterware like Undertale or FNAF, because they can run on literally any computer. Ironically, the PC games with the best graphics are almost exclusively console ports. Really makes you think.

I had Bejeweled on my Palm m515. It was a great way to pass time when you were waiting for a bus or something, but I would never be sitting at home and think “gee where’s my Palm Pilot, I could really go for a game of Bejeweled right now”. The reason why is that mobile gaming, even back before the FTP, PTW nonsense, was just a time-wasting wank.

weird, I would have thought it would be a steady increase.
pc gaming shank in the late 80's
console gaming shrank for a bit in the mid 90's
I thought pc gaming shrank during the mmo fad but it was steady, I would have thought it would have increased a lot when steam came around.
The perception was that sega and nintendo were babies and sony opened up the market.

>> No.8635626

Probably '98 - '04, I'd say. If it has to be less, - '02, but if it can be more, I'd include '05 as well. Lifetimes of the GBC, Wonderswan family, and NGP+C made for the perfect trifecta of old portables with their own niches and wonderful color pixels is one of the biggest reasons why. Dreamcast and Gamecube's summer vacation feel alone bring in the best out of consoles, but with the PS2 being the PS2, and then the Xbox being the Dreamcast 2 in many ways? Felt amazing. Virtua Fighter 4 I especially remember for wowing me with how it looked. Great time.

True, a lot of younger gamers can't possibly understand how magical gaming felt during the 8bit and 16 bit era.
You can't compare being all alone in your bedroom and playing Chrono Trigger on your phone to sitting in front of a big glowing crt tv with friends and playing Rock & Roll Racing or Street Fighter II while your third buddy is reading that EGM you brought with you.
