I like Ocarina the most of any Zelda game. Not really sure why honestly. I guess I'd describe it as 'familiar' and 'comfortable' and 'with no major flaws'. Every other 3D Zelda has some kind of major flaw (or is a prototype for a sequel, BotW) or is Majora's Mask which I find kind of stressful to play. Ocarina is the game I play when I just want to relax and play a Zelda game. It just feels well designed and breezy to play. Majora may be the better game in many ways, but I think I'll always prefer Ocarina. LttP never really clicked for me
It's not even a nostalgia thing really, I played it a little as a kid but I didn't get into it until I played through it on GameCube as a teenager.

the overworld in ages is kinda crappy and waiting 5 seconds for the harp sucks but i guess you can fast forward if you're on emulator

minish cap is not bad but it's the baby zelda experience. incredibly easy and linear dungeons, so much that the final one is practically a stretch to the boss, not to mention only 5 of them

This was one of the dullest “breakthroughs” of fifth gen. Seriously each episode following the boy "adventurer" and his pals from Hyrule as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the cartoonish imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of repetitive puzzles, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Nintendo vetoed the idea of a third party producing the games; Miyanoto made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody- just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for their annual "party games" and childish fighting franchise. The Zelda series might be anti-Sony (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Spyro series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement.

>a-at least the platforming elements were good though

"No!"

The writing is dreadful; the exploration was nonexistent. As I played, I noticed that every time Link went to "explore" a largely empty world, Nintendo shoehorned in some repetitive puzzles to pad out the game. I began marking on the back of a Nintendo Power magazine every time I came to the same rehashed box pushing/lever pulling puzzles. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Nintendo's team is so governed by cliches and milking tired franchises ad nauseum that they have no other style of development. Later I watched a lavish, loving Let's Play of The Ocarina of Time by some YouTube manchild. He said something to the effect of, "If these kids are playing Ocarina of Time at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to owning a Nintendo Switch." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play The Ocarina of Time you are, in fact, trained to play the same dull Nintendo rehashes decade after decade.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons frequently asked questions:

>Are these two versions of the same game like Pokemon?
No. They're two unique games with different worlds, dungeons, items and stories.

>How do I play the linked game on an emulator?
Exactly like you would on hardware. Use the password you get at the end of the first game when you start the second one.

>Which one should I play first?
Short answer: It doesn't matter.
Long answer: Ages.

I will say its the best(or one of) game "experiences" in that you can show it as "here is a game about going on an adventure doing video gamey things". Its got a classic fantasy set up not too up its own ass on lore, its not a movie game, its not super retro, its not a confusing rpg. Its like a pillar game if you were to show a basic explanation to someone of what a video game is and the most quality relative to its popularity you can show along with things like pacman and one of the 2d marios. Maybe its normy tier cause of that but its the best "kid with sword goes on adventure" plot done in the medium that anyone could get into.

Yeah, it's a very quintessential "video game", which is either it's appeal, or it's detriment, if you've played a thousand similar games and you're looking for something that feels fresh.
