Well, the system itself without the add-ons seems like a pretty neat concept. A very small system that plays games (that aren't really interesting).
But yeah, if you need add-ons for add-ons, that is going overboard, unless it is mainly for aesthetics (like how Game Boy would have magnifying glass and lights etc)?

Yeah, usually console periphals are more miss than hit. The only ones that seem to succeed are controller based items, such as the Rumble Pak or music/rhythm input devices.

Probably the best 4th gen console for shmups. Had a couple of great platformers as well like Bonk and Rondo.
