Can we talk about how utterly traumatizing OOT and MM were?

>> No.8610554

No.

>> No.8610631

If you were traumatized by a video game by that point in your life, you were a sheltered child.
>BUT MUH HECKIN SCARY SKELETONARINO
MM might have the atmosphere but how many times will the world ending actually affect you if it's a game?

They weren't traumatising but I remember being really sad on the last day of MM when all the villagers have either killed themselves or are full on depressed because the moons about to kill them

Yea, the third day in MM is kind of fucked up for a kids game. But there is still nothing traumatizing about it.

There's nothing traumatizing about animated skeletons.

Fuck yeah I was a sheltered child. Thankfully my parents actually had their shit together so I was protected from pedos, murderers, and drug fucked psychos, and so the scariest thing I had to deal with was a video game in the safety and comfort of my home.

I had to complete the shadow temple for one of my friends because it was too spoopy for them.

The mask transformations in MM were a bit much though, even for 10yo me.

The redeads in the hyrule family tomb wigged me out as a seven year old. Then I shit my pants and didn't play the game for months after leaving the temple of time as adult link.

But OOT wasnt scary at all and MM was just unsettling with all the terrified NPCs/Music/Rumbling on Day 3.
>t. Was too scared to play Resident Evil or Tomb Raider alone at the time.
For some reason TR 1 and 2 scare the shit out of me... The way enemies start attacking out of nowhere with an aggro noise/music most of the time

so like do 8 year olds playing BotW get scared by Bokoblin skeletons the same way we got scared by Stalchildren in OoT when we were 8?

It's hard to tell what's scary to other people when you're desensitized to horror. I always say that horror elements in E rated games is fun and that it's a shame you don't really see it anymore, but maybe I do and don't notice it.

The mask itself was the scariest shit for me, not even the moon scared me as much as seeing skull kid suspended lifeless from the mask. Also the toilet hand because I have had a rat climb up my toilet once before.

>be 5
>live in smokey, violent house with brutal hierarchy and favoritism between much older siblings
>terrified of getting in mild trouble at school and going home to get screamed at and pushed around by middle-aged people and holier-than-thou druggy teenagers
>try inhibiting self to avoid getting in trouble at home
>fail to and get hyperactive or too excited
>almost never got scared about the same things the kids at school were scared of
I didn't get them for a long time, but it makes sense now. They were uninhibited and had relatively healthy upbringings, but with fears and darkness of their own to face just like anyone else. The context and the gravity of the darkness is different, but darkness is an abyss and it can quickly turn into a dick-measuring contest about who had it worse.
>you got your head smashed into the wall? that's some pussy shit, my parents used to beat me with a bat
>your parents hit you with a bat everyday? that's some pussy shit, my parents were meth heads who stole my piggybank and threatened to burn me alive everyday if i didn't shape up
With that in mind, I think we're all pretty lucky in this day and age.

Imagine being born into some remote, incestuous tribe that practiced cannibalism 800 years ago, with any record or account of the sheer darkness and savagery long-extinct - perhaps for the better. What would that person's definition of things like darkness, empathy, or sympathy be?

>> No.8612181

Redeads used to terrify me, everything they did with them was on point

>rumbling, soft murmurs while standing still
>usually in dark places
>screeches at you on eye contact
>completely freezes you and zooms in on it walking towards you
And if you got jumped on, mashing everything to get it the fuck off and to get the fuck out

I honestly don't know, that's a good point. I can't imagine anyone being scared by these guys, but that's because I'm pushing 30 now. I was pleasantly surprised by how horrific the zombie bokoblins were in Skyward Sword, I can easily see that filtering some kid a decade ago.

The only thing I found scary about OOT were the redeads, I still don't like the sounds they make & watching the thing saunter towards the player then proceed to skullfuck you.
The music is occasionally a little bit tense but other than that these games aren't really as scary as I remember them being.

I doubt it, honestly. Even as skeletons they are very cartoonish, and the game lacks the atmosphere or difficulty to make them threatening. I was a pretty squeamish kid and I think at worst I'd have been mildly unnerved if I had played BotW as a child.

the only thing traumatizing is how overrated they are and how nostalgiafags cant ever shut the fuck up about them. they really arent special, and are in fact clunky as fuck. landmarks in history? yes. good at the time? sure. do they hold up? lol fuck no. and then its so overblown that we get ultrafags like OP trying to meme about "trauma" and "how scary/creepy" some shitty n64 game was. if you got scared by a game, you're an inferior breed of human.
