I cannot replay any childhood rpgs or new-to-me classics that present initial character rolls or mid-game skill trees. I end up sitting there re-rolling stats or reading nerd guides for hours. Eventually I get stressed out or bored and I never play the damn game. How do I get over this?

Why would you re-roll stats for hours in Wizardry?
The bonus system makes it very easy to tell if a roll is good or not.

There's really no other way to play them. The designers copied mechanics from tabletop RPGs without thinking about how well they would work in a video game. There's no reason to play with shitty stats in a video game because it's not like playing D&D with your bros where being a shitty character can be fun. You're intentionally gimping yourself for "challenge" and you probably don't want to do that on your first playthrough.

Stats aren't going to do shit in this game anyways unless you're seeking to roll a Ninja or Lord right off the bat, which kind of kills the fun anyways (plus rerolling is fucking boring). Just go with the flow and wing it, since you're expected to roll with the punches in Wiz anyways.

You don't roleplay in these games, you rollplay. You're not playing a role to create a story, the game tells you the story (if it even has one) and you roll for good numbers.
