The thing I also did was a bit different but it works too.
On Google type in "site:youtube.com" then the name of the game or whatever after a space. Click on "videos" and it'll give you results for that subject. Then you can specify a time range and set it to something like December 31 2005 to 2007, you can find very old and soulful videos this way.

Mostly knew him since he used to shill his stuff on an MGS forum I used to frequent, since he did videos on the NES Metal Gears. Of course, his Snake's Revenge video is just him failing the first Jungle area and calling the game crap because of that (his later video on the first NES Metal Gear was a bit better). Because in reality not much changed other than graphics after the PS2. Oblivion was just janky Skyrim and Skyrim is still relevant, same for GTA IV and GTA V. Battlefield is still Battlefield. The Last Of Us? Still the same. Basically no AAA franchise that existed back then changed much, and if it did like GoW, it was nothing major that wasn't impossible at the time.

What the fuck happened? Comparing the pre-movie episodes directly to the new ones the problem is can't act for shit anymore. The old episodes had this consistent snarky, passive-aggressive tone that made them great and built up to the outbursts when they did happen. Now he's calm for the majority of the episode but then every minute or so will have some really forced Nick Cage tier screaming outburst that isn't really funny.

Really? I feel like he yells piss and ass way more often now. It's the angry tone in his voice in the old videos that make them great for me, not necessarily what he's saying. They're funny because he's just constantly annoyed instead of talking about a game and freaking out every minute.

I think the videos where he talks about games he actually likes still hold up though, his Earthbound video is probably the best one in recent years, reminds me of his Castlevania series.

one of my favorite old episodes and a perfect example of this is the power glove episode. sure there's a lot of the typical over the top cursing stuff but he was still figuring the whole shtick out so it was fresh. and the rest of the video is just improvised riffing which is what I miss the most. you can hear him genuinely getting frustrated and he's just voicing the actual opinions he had as a kid now that he's a bit older and has had time to express it better.
now he's made a fortune out of his unique way of expressing that genuine frustration, it's impossible to keep that up forever. so as much as I don't really care for his newer shit I can't say I really blame him. crazy to think those first videos are as old now as the games featured in them.

without a doubt. and he was never much of an actor, or even a nerd for that matter. i guess by genuine i meant more that it was coming from a genuine place, even if he was playing it up for entertainment value. his first videos were pretty much him going through the games from his childhood he still had lying around, and expressing the real frustration he experienced back then now that he had a more mature persepctive on it and could put it in more precise words than he could as a kid. he could still remember how legitimately mad he got at those games, and he was just getting it off his chest for the first time. now that he's gone through all those games he played as a kid and then some, the well has kinda run dry.
