Anyway, I don't think she should have been cut per se, she's part of Smash's image now like it or not. I do think she's a shit inclusion and the work put into her should have been put into any other spheric character (given that she was made from Kirby's assets) whoever that were.

She's cute, but yeah I feel like she doesn't really deserve to remain in Smash. She's often ported over horribly and has been low tier for ages now. She was just a quick and cheap reuse of Kirby's model in 64 and also due to the Ashnime at the time making her popular with her scribbling antics on people's faces. I heard that if Smash 64 had 6 more months of dev time it would have been Meowth that was included as opposed to Jigglypuff.

This was fake news and the same one that keeps coming back like a zombie too due a naive nature of a fanbase.
The only officially considered characters for 64 were:
>Mewtwo (who had the most work done according to the Smash 2 poll notes by Sakurai)
>Bowser and Dedede (Confirmed by Miyamoto then Sakurai in the japanaese Smash 2 polling)
>the entire Star Fox team as costume with Slippy throwing the whole idea out (the Smash Reader Response, pg. 5)
>Marth (in the Fire Emblem 25th Anniversary Famitsu interview, which brought up a lot of juicy details on Smash development)

You have to understand why she's there in the first place in order to appreciate her role in the series.

She's a joke character, where the joke is, no little boy in the late '90s would want to pick her, but she ends up being secretly powerful because of that one dumb attack.
This joke sort of faded away when evn sillier characters started getting added, like Pichu.

Basically it would be like removing Dan from Street Fighter—not that they haven't ever done such a thing, but it wasn't cool when they did it, and it wouldn't be cool now. She has a place in the roster. She also brings a completely unique playstyle to the table that no other character can bring because of her air speed and wall-of-death combos.

I didn't play 64 as a kid, but I did play Melee. When I unlocked Jigglypuff I just shrugged it off and never played as her. Didn't know Rest was an actual attack until one of my friends showed me "a secret" he had found. Didn't care about her anyway.
