Favorite Castlevania sub-weapon?

I've never been disappointed by holy water, and find myself using it throughout most games. It's spread and persistence is useful for clearing out densely packed rooms and racking up damage on large slow-moving opponents.

That's a hard question. It varies from game to game. Though a cross with a III rune is really hard to beat.

Yeah I was about to respond to myself to clarify. I just meant out of the games you've played what do you generally go with. I know that there's variance in their usefulness and how they function

I generally prefer holy water, but I used the cross way more in rondo of blood for example

>> No.8597001

Holy water and axe are often the best. The bible is great in Rondo. Stopwatch is typically a waste of hearts.

Depends wich castlevania.
In around 98% of castlevania games the cross-boomerang.
In symphony of the night, the axe.
In portrait of ruin the kunai at max level.

I haven't found the stopwatch to be useful in any of the games actually

agunea is the coolest
holy water and/or cross are when you mean business
knife is the most well-rounded
axe mostly sucks and is too expensive

for the record the key has a bigger Y axis hit detection ratio, you wouldn't be able to hit enemies on the upper floor without it. and it doesn't use hearts.

I've played very little of the NES games, but I played a lot of Bloodlines and Rondo and I tend to prefer the cross/boomerang in both of them

personally I wanted to save all my hearts in case I really needed them and ended up never using my subweapons

circle of the moon hits a sweet spot with the crosses and difficulty and frequency of hearts.

in most other games i go with the knives often because the 1 heart cost makes me a lot less reluctant to use them

In literally every CV game you get more than enough hearts without even going out of your way to use subweapons as needed against trash enemies and bosses to counter their patterns

I use the Axe as much as possible

I always had a soft spot for the rebound stone, i use to call it "the diamond", and saddens me why they never brought it back, the weird gun thingy and the white salt never made sense to me.

>> No.8597756

Always dependent on the situation, but it's always cross-axe-holy water for me, I never use anything else.

>> No.8597767

Gotta go with the cross. You get the multiple hits, and there's no potential to be shit out of luck when the boss ends up being one of the flying ones.

Oh shit that's what it's supposed to be. It's like a flintlock pistol. I always thought it was a fancy ring.

>> No.8598997

The best ones are usually the ax, holy water, and the cross. I tend to prefer the ax the most just due to the fact that it can give you additional range in where you can attack enemies since your whip only goes forward.

I like the diamond thing. In the bottom right corner

>> No.8599119

The holy water is always overpowered. Even in SOTN with all the new weapons, the holy water can still take on everything.

Can't relate with conserving Castlevania hearts, but I definitely do this with JRPGs. Did it as a kid with Final Fantasy, and still try not to use the really good healing items in SMT games nowadays

The holy water is pretty shit in Bloodlines, the axe is king in that game
