I know this is a really stupid question, but I wanted to know other people’s opinions on this. How do you truly beat a game, per se?
When does a game really end? When you find and finish every single challenge and secret the game can provide, or when you simply beat the hardest challenge the game has to offer, when you played it until the ending credit, or when you just get bored of it?
Again, sorry for a faggot thread. But please let me know what you think.

Fighting games only end when the discord tranny leaks your home address and threatens to murder you irl.

Seriously don't add channers on steam and don't join discord links from 4chan, your ip can be easily traced on those two platforms.

Until the ending credit, no outside assistance (tools, walkthroughs), difficulty doesn't matter.

The reality of adding someone from 4chan is a quiet sperg or a quiet sperg that's overcompensating by being an obnoxious shitposter.

This. Don't care if you rewind, save state, save scum, turbo fire, play on easy. It's players vs devs, use every tool to your advantage.

I consider a game beaten when I see the credits. I don't like to use savestates or rewind just because I enjoy playing that way, but I won't pretend that anybody who does use those things didn't beat a game if they made it to the credits. I even think that people who cheat and beat games beat them; it's not like I'm the King Enma of gaming or something.

For me, ending a game is getting to the end with some sort of assistance (cheats/warps/rewind/save states etc). Beating a game is getting to the end with no assistance. Completing a game is 103%ing it. But really, in this day and age, actually getting to the end through any means puts you way ahead of the sad amount of people who just watch a Let's Play and say "yeah, I've beaten the game."

I don't care about finding every secret or even the hardest challenge. If you hit the credits without cheating, then it's done. Save states are usually just a form of cheating. Though I feel like using them anywhere the original hardware would let you continue for infinity is fine.

Did you personally trigger the end sequence without the use of save states, rewinds or gameplay altering patches? Then you did it, conglarutatoings, you're winner.

I consider beating a game when you beat the main portion of it. Like let me use Resident evil 4.

I consider it beaten when the player beats the main game on normal. Yes theres operation ada and the other modes but theyre short and fast.

Operation ada can be beaten in like two hours tops. Then the game just loops back to

>okay you can play the main game on hard or play it on normal again with all the guns

Modern games: finishing whatever is called “campaign” in the hardest non-retard difficulty. For games I really like - getting all non-retard achievements.
Retro games: Being able to watch the “best ending” of a given game

Well, there are different types of completion, with one of the most well known being the 100% completion, some would argue that's the only way you truly beat the game, but I think that's too much. When talking to most people out there, if you say that you've beat something, their understanding will be that you went from the beggining to the end in the default difficulty setting, that's it, and to me that counts as beating it, anything after that is a bonus that can be specified, like saying you've beat it on the hardest setting and/or 100%.

You beat the game once you beat the final boss. Everything beyond that is just bonus.

HARD agree.
