Famicom version of Castlevania 3 (akumajou densetsu) is pretty easy compared to other games in the series. Or you could play the x68k game as it starts at least mode. Or you could play the port version in Castlevania chronicles on playstation, IIRC they fucked it up and the AI is braindead as a result.

I guess legends on game boy is pretty easy, just not very good. Better to play dracula 2 on game boy and just cheat past the final bosses if you can't tryhard past them.

I played it just recently and I would have to say no to that. As soon as the first level, you end up with shit like the bats flittering around with obnoxious patterns at awkward angles, the fucking ghosts zooming in at even worse angles and most likely to respawn from the edge of the screen, and you'll probably get fucked by the trick candle at least once. It doesn't get much if any better from there. I still enjoyed it, but I've probably built up patience from playing nigh every other classicvania.

More the aesthetics and how stuff's just slightly off: traveling across Europe instead of a single castle, collecting gems instead of hearts, subweapons are kinda different, Dracula's niece is a character for some reason and also it's WWI and she killed Franz Ferdinand, etc.

Them being Scottish was the only lore change in the reboots I thought was a good idea, fits the noble barbarian style thing they were going for in the early ones well.
