Are you still mad at fighting games for killing off beat 'em ups?

Why is every other thread on this God-forsaken board revisionist history?

Nah, I can understand fghting games having more social/competitive appeal, but bmups are still a fun genre.

Not trying to be arrogant, but what do people even like about beat-em-ups?

You ever try to 1CC Final Fight? It's as chaotic as a fight scene from any movie.

Frustration simulators if you're playing for 1cc. They have the most RNG of any single-player action genre and were clearly designed to eat your quarters with random bullshit.
>but people have gotten 1cc's!
You can't consistently 1cc these games and anyone that tells you they can is lying. Getting good at them is just a waste of your time because they'll always find a way to fuck your run over more often than not.

No relation there. Beat'em ups turned into DMC / God of War is what happened.

DMC and the like aren't beat 'em ups, they're combat-oriented action/adventure games.

Pure beat 'em ups like Final Fight and Streets of Rage pretty much died out after the '90s.

Why do people even like RPGs?

Nah
There’s no way you think DMC or Bayonetta aren’t 3D beatemups

randomness is a good thing though, only autists would want each new playthrough to be exactly the same every time.

In a way yes, the stupid magazines hyped up all those shitty sf2 clones like Tuff e Nuff which probably stopped other good games being made. Neo geo would have also had much more different types of games if fighting games weren't so popular.
If you look at 8 bit consoles there is a lot more variety in platform games.

>>8538416
I like them but they have to have a decent amount of moves such as throwing or potential combos. Most of the longplays of beat em up the player just uses the same move the whole game which is boring. I even like toxic crusaders decently even if it is doesn't have many moves, the main difficulty is choosing the optimal position to let it rip.

>> No.8538915

>>8538685
learning to deal with the randomness is a skill and what keeps the games from getting repetitive

lmao at your cope because you can't play

No, because they didn't kill off beat-em ups at all.
What a ridiculous claim.

They have puzzles, exploration, etc. which old arcade-y beat 'em ups lacked.
If you want to see what an actual 3D beat 'em up looks like, watch this:

This.
Final Fight Arcade is to DMC as Castlevania on the NES is to Symphony of the Night.
