Which system had better arcade ports?

>> No.8522041

Genesis hands down. SNES conversions had more colors but also suffered from slowdown and being Nintendoed. You'd start off with an arcade fighter, and end up with super mortal Kombat bros

>> No.8522051

You can tell it's a really stupid question when even a SNES fanboy like me thinks it's obviously not the SNES.

The genesis but just barely. If you can, always play the arcade version.

>> No.8522090

Genesis. SNES often had better visuals and music but there’s always a lot of really annoying slow down and other annoying elements. Genesis played them fine, and even the soundtrack sounds much more faithful to the original.

This brings me back to looking at how much better the genesis mk ports were compared to snes

>> No.8522101

The real competition would be Genesis vs TG16

For example Cadash on TG16 is much better overall than the Genesis version, although Genesis did have better graphics.

Depends on the game

Usually PC Engine ports would be better, but Mega Drive is the only console which has arcade ports which are better than the arcade versions.

Such as?

>> No.8522518

The Genesis has more arcade ports because it started earlier so there are games like Paperboy et al that the SNES never got.

Which arcade games had better SNES ports?
People seem to like SSF2 better on SNES but it’s not like either console was totally up to that port.
I would have liked to see a Gradius game on Genesis at some point.

genesis and it's not even close
however the sound got cucked from the FM chip, assuming the original arcade machine used something different.

I honestly prefer FM/Genesis soundtracks over the others every time though

>> No.8522610

>>8522015
If you want a few more colors, the SNES, if you want better gameplay, the Genesis.
The sound question is pretty much a matter of taste, whether you enjoy FM synth or compressed sample-based sound.

The SNES didn't offer any benefits over the Mega Drive when it came to actual game performance. Roughly the same sprite capabilities (actually worse because it has non-working DMA and more limits on how much video RAM can be used for sprites) same amount of video RAM and main RAM. Worse CPU, some more colors and a couple cheesy graphics gimmicks thrown in. It had a few more controller buttons, yes, but many games didn't even make use of all of them.
