A lot of people use it to clean the actual cartridge contacts/pins which is really a bad idea.

I don't think it's a tragedy to use it to clean contacts. Don't use a lot and you'll be fine. I've seen people who use too much and splatter it all over to the point it's eating the traces under the plastic sheath. The funniest alternative I've seen is a fiber glass pen which is a pretty nuclear option for cleaning contacts.

As a tool, brasso is quite useful but teaching people to use it can make it a convenient widespread solution that isn't abused.

IPA for contacts and for getting general grime and stickiness off of plastic surfaces. Goo-Gone for stickers. I once used hairspray to remove permanent marker.

IPA can clean grime but you really need a proper contact cleaner to get corrosion off without damaging them.

I've been liking the wd40 contact cleaner. Only wd40 I really use.
Also stop using wd40 as a lubricant, it is not a lubricant.

Does using brasso on plastic really work? I want to remove scratches from the lcd lens of a gameboy color and the jewel of my gamecube but want to make sure I'm doing it right before diving in.

You light the lighter and hold it for about ten seconds, then extinguish it and rub it around a sticker on your cartridge to heat up the glue just a bit. Then the sticker should come off without leaving much residue.

You DO NOT apply the actual flame to the cartridge. Anything else warm could potentially work, like the exhaust fan from your PC or a central air heating vent, etc, etc.

You can use a bulb duster to blow air out of your PC or other electronics.
Compressed air dusters are full of bitterants and I don't want that shit anywhere near me.

Even simpler, you just scrape the pad across the paper lightly. Its just enough of an abrasive that it removes the top layer. Sould only take a few swipes. Stop as soon as your pad isn't shiny anymore.

Sure, I think the only difference is how hot they get. You dont need anything crazy hot to get the glue loose. That and heat guns comes with tips you can attach so that you can direct the heat better.

For all of you fags using gloogone on cartridges make sure not to get even a single drop on a sticker that you do want. I ruined an amazing copy of MBS + Track Meet + Duck Hunt and it now has a nasty feint brown spot that just won't dry out.
