Question, /vr/, if you homebrew an OG Xbox, can you force PAL games to run in 480p (progressive scan) @ 60 FPS over Y'PbPr as if they were NTSC builds?

I heard from somewhere that even PAL OG Xbox executables really support VGA 60Hz on the inside, & that somehow softmods or BIOS switching can bruteforce this..

Yes, if it's modded you just enable a few things in a menu.

yes, pal and ntsc consoles have the same hardware aside from psu differences and few chips having different manufacturer. you can flip ntsc mode on if you got a pal console and full access.

where xbox games pal optimized?

I don't think so. While you can enable NTSC video modes (480p, 720p, 1080i) on a PAL Xbox, I don't know if PAL games will properly take advantage of them.

It actually does that automatically (at least to me) there's a few things though, some games for whatever reason won't start or work in 480p (just a very few though, you can play them in 576i) and if you play PAL versions of games in 480p the cutscenes will go at 60hz instead of 50

That I don't know

Yep, modded BIOS (softmod) will give you a menu that lets you enable that. But should be enabled even by default if you play PAL but have 480p enabled.

Many games weren't even hardcoded to the refresh anymore, they were just capped.

For what purpose?

why not

There's some games that can't be forced into 60hz like Halo and SSX 3 (?) but as usual information is scarce and you're going off a single post from a forum 15 years ago most of the time.
