Your mom is the best game in town.
Easy to play too.

Doom better for single player, Quake better for multiplayer.

This is mostly considering the IPs as a whole, I can't remember every little nuanced detail over 25+ years.

I'll play Quake 1 all day every day over Doom/II
They really fucked Quake over by abusing its name for the unrelated sequel.
Still to this day one of the most immersive and atmospheric games I've ever played. They really should reboot it like they did with Doom

Quake.
They both aged like shit with horrible tank controls and bad graphics, however they had to exist so UT99, Halo, and CoD 4 could be good so there's that.

Quake had tank controls? I guess on console.

I'm a little bit biased because I just finished Quake 1 this weekend on the rerelease but to me Quake > Doom. Only problems I had with Quake were:
>Too easy even on nightmare
>Enemy roster was good but it felt like it was missing something, should also have been more lovecraftian
>Regular nailgun was redundant after you got the super version.
>Bosses, although I will say the last level was fun, the way people talk about Shub I thought it was gonna be garbage.

It was way too short IMO, the first time I played it it was over before I realized.

It could have been way better, but I had fun with the series of shamblers and vores with limited ammo and if I hadn't been spoiled the telefrag would have been a cool surprise.

my first FPS was quake 2, i've loved the quake and unreal series ever since

i came late to the partty and played Doom/Doom II years later, and honestly just found them fucking boring and just went back to playing Quake 3

I have no way to answer this question because the nostalgia for Doom is too strong for me. Yet, I love it more as an adult than I ever did as a kid. Only played Quake recently and it also blew me away, but I just can't put it ahead of Doom.

Doom is an unique one-of-a-kind game in history that defined a generation.
Quake's issue is it literally got everything right - BSP level editors, 3D, multiplayer - it was the blueprint for every fps that came out later and improved on it in every way or at least were just as good.

It also suffered from very high system requirements, where Doom ran on less years-old PCs.

It's crazy to think that every 'corridor shooter' game engine worked basically like Quake up to the mid-2000s, with Source being probably the most famous holdout.

Multiplayer client-server synchronisation to this day works like the way it did in Quake.

Quake is more fun than Doom or Doom II to me, but it's close. Doom is definitely the better series overall though

You used the keyboard to play back in the day. There was no strafing. You literally turned around like a tank.

Yes retard, we all know mouse look was a thing added later on in the games, but they still weren't tank controls as another anon pointed out, there was strafing.

>> No.8516891

>>8514520
Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake, had support for WASD, strafing, and using the mouse, in Quake's case it even had full freelook.
