Which of the Mega Man X games is the best?

X2. Fight me.

X1 is the best in X1-3.
X4 is the best in X4-6.
I like X4 best myself because of the production value probably. No comment on the 3D ones.

>> No.8502414

X2 > X1 > X4 > X3 > X5 > X8 > X6 > X7

Possibly swap X3 and X5 depending on how I feel that day.

>> No.8502425

X1 and X4 are the best.
X2, X3 and X8 are good
X6 is a battlefield of opinions but I personally like it to an extent
X5 is kinda shit
We don't talk about X7
Command Mission is an RPG if that's your thing.

You know what? You're right about X8. It's much better than it's given credit for. But for whatever reason I just never feel compelled to revisit it that much.

>>8502431
The graphics are frankly average, the jumping is heavier than the previous games (it feels like you fall faster), the combined special attack is overpowered and Man'O'War stage is clunky, but other than that it's not a bad game. It has a great OST, actually decent voice acting, good character designs and it redeems Axl after his X7 debut, on top of putting a neat twist on Sigma.

The first one unfortunately. X2 was lazier and feels less complete, X3 sucked, X4 was okay, X5 was shit, X6 is unfinished, X7 is garbage, and X8 is mediocre. The classic series, Zero games, and ZX games are better than the X series as a whole.

I'd say past X3 it started to go downhill, but I agree with you that X1 was probably the best. Crush Crawfish had the best stage music in the series, bar none.

X2 fixes the handful of problems that X1 had though.

Forcing Penguin first to get the boots
The levels forced to be designed around not having the boots even though you're likely to always get them right away
Making the boots mandatory for every other armor upgrade
An especially useless helmet
A very stupid hadoken process
A weird as hell difficulty curve where if you start with Octopus it's damn near a challenge mode

Fuck your challenge runs dude. All it does it allow you to dash, just don't press the damn button.
>Hadouken
Secret item that is not necessary to beat the game, which you'd only know it exists from a videogame magazine.

Dude, you can't complain about the Hadouken when X2 has the Shoryuken.

>> No.8502670

>>8502585
Yeah, X1 is not without problems, but I'd rather play it over X2 for a few reasons:
The soundtrack is better
The level design is better
I like that beating some stages affects the other stages, although this is not a necessary thing
The special weapons are a lot better, and I actually find myself using them throughout levels
The fortress stages are not a fucking slog
The final stage is its own thing, and not a copy and paste of a previous stage in the game
The final stage is designed so that you can refill your sub tanks before fighting Sigma again, because the devs actually cared about the player
Secret areas are a lot less convoluted and don't require a walkthrough to figure out

Starting off with the dash, having a better armor set, and better sprite animations are about the only things X2 does better than X1. I'll even say that X2 has some wonderful bossfight, but that's really all the praise I can give it.

That's what makes it stupid. The Shoryuken can be intuitively discovered. The hadoken requires a guide.

X1, only that one, and only on a real SNES with composite cables.

X4 > X1 > X8 > X2 > X3 > X6 > X5 > X7

6 may be a broken, buggy, poorly designed disaster but it didn’t bore me to tears like X5. You didn’t have to go through that horrible lava donut level 3 times just to get all the upgrades. X7 is just garbage

X2 is one of my favorite games ever, but god I hate the music. That same annoying guitar soundfont in every song. And X1 has probably the best soundtrack of any game ever.

It's a clear alternate path that begs investigation and a long chasm that you're likely to slide down slowly out of caution and stumble onto either the capsule or an empty room, which in that case would be suspicious enough to warrant repeated visits. It being "hard" to navigate is what would make people want to know what's so special about it. Which is exactly how you properly hide a secret.

X3 (SNES). X3 PS1 sucks. Completely fucked up the soundtrack, and the added cutscenes are cringe because they don't fit in with the mood of the game at all. X1 > X2 > X4 after that (all amazing games), and the Xtreme games are also great. X8 is also great. X5 sucks and X7 is gay trash. Command Mission is all right.

Why does it seem like everybody and their grandma likes the Mega Man games with shitty, uninspired level designs?
Mega Man 2 is exclusively straight lines, with each stage having a changing point around the middle in which you go down/ up for a screen or so.
Mega Man X is almost exclusively straight lines as well.
What is with you faggots?

>> No.8504041

>>8502368
X1 is the only good one. The series just gets progressively worse in different ways. X3 is at least funny in how pathetic and bad it is, but after it there's no looking back. Just awful, awful shit.

>> No.8504046

>>8504016
5 is way overdesigned. Its not bad per se but it tries to do too much and suffers for it. This being when they started including multiple armor sets you no longer get equipped with the parts as you find them, only being able to use an armor when its fully assembled, making the whole process a lot less interesting. And X5 is especially dumb for trying to railroad you into specific boss orders. Yes, you don't have to follow it as instructed but it's irritating. I pair it with X3 because they're both similar in that respect, where they threw in way too much and it hurts the game, even if the overall experience isn't terrible.

>> No.8504062

>>8504035
If any X game has boring level design its X3. Almost every stage is loaded with damage sink enemies that barely move, has some big open area you have to weave through, and is annoyingly miniboss happy.
