Oni is so much better with the brutal AI mod. It gives enemies the ability to use Konoko's full moveset in battle, turning common mooks into fighting game opponents. The PS2 version is trash, because enemies just stand still and throw the occasional punch or kick.

Maybe because it didn't sell great in the first place, and Take Two has properties like Bioshock and GTA they can invest in instead?

Plus, not sure how "white guys' and one Chinese-American's imitation of Japanese anime" would go over today.

There is a FPS Mech game I sorta remember playing as a child. It was for the PC and you could lean from side to side, rolling on what I assume were wheels. You could even crouch and roll at the same time, and even jump into the air and do a somersault. I don't remember much about it, just that the main front cover had the mech in the front and various cool colored hues all around it. I continue to search for this elusive game.

It has its cult following, considering it was made by a pre-Halo Bungie.

Here's Vendetta, a C64 action game by System 3 (of Last Ninja fame) that has nothing to do with the Konami beat-'em-up. The cover is weirdly romantic, considering the kidnapped girl is supposed to be the hero's niece.

Overall it's a good game, despite its flaws. The voice acting is absolutely top notch, even by today's standards, the characters are interesting and unique, the religious lore that ties the world together is fascinating and very well-written, and the bad guys are some real sons of bitches. Every "world shell" feels like a world of its own, with very different people, cultures, levels of advancement, struggles and accomplishments. Unfortunately, Septerra Core has one of the most boring, clunky and stiff battle systems I've seen. Random encounters take way too long to complete, you spend 2/3 of the time just waiting for your action bar to charge up to the highest level, and by late-game things keep dodging your moves (or they'll take 0 damage because of some shitty bug that happens more often as the game progresses). At least there's a cheat code that lets you win fights instantly by pressing Alt+F3. Just turn that on and use it to get through random encounters. Don't use it in the boss fights, those are actually kind of fun.

Never heard anyone mentioning or talking about it.
It's damn good. The spells are fun to use, movement of the character is solid, creepy art direction is nice and spooky with those voodoo elements, and the music, man the way the music builds up from barely there with progress through the stage until at the end it's full of layers and epic is amazing.
The only negative thing I can say is that the levels range from awesome to look at to pretty boring, and unfortunately the further you go the more the boring ones tend to become the majority.
The best levels are obvously the ones that embrace the spooky voodoo afterlife atmosphere, with the sacrificial temple being the high point, which is genuinely creepy with its cells and altars and blood everywhere, which is also one of the first levels you visit. Later on there tend to be too many levels of "boring geometric structures floating in the air". In other word its high points are spectacular (like walking on the snake over the rivers of blood or the temple of blades) but its low points are pretty low as well.

Still, it's a great game.

Real name Claude Errera. Got control of a lot of Internet bandwidth somehow, and started a Web hosting company for easy income. Registered the bungie.org domain in the '90s, effectively founding/taking control of the Bungie fan "community". Hanging out together on a site specifically dedicated to a particular studio's games probably played a role in fueling fan dedication.

You come dangerously close to wishing for a remaster. Personally, I think the simple models and bright uniform lighting suit it. I think modern CG animation has eroded my taste for cel-shaded "fake 2D". It might look good in actual 2D, though.

There's also a director's cut of the second game, which itself has different versions in germany and the rest of the world

Director's cut of the first game has a "making of" gallery, with concept art and test animations (in the real early ones the cyborg' stand-in was a patlabor) and a development diary. The game itself is the same

The second game's director's cut has two extra fighters (called Sheepman and Bunnyrabbit) for a total of 30, contains the full text of the novel, the Brian May tracks that were made fo the first game but couldn't be used due to a right dispute, and a making-of folder that's really just a slapdash dump of whatever was lying around at the end of dev, images or animations or sounds.

Ironically that makes it rather interesting because even there's no context for anything there's a bunch of cut content. That's how people first realized there was an arcade prototype for example, since there's animations from it, or that Brian May actually voiced the (heavily vocoded) announcer.

The Saturn sold 1.8 million units in North America. Dragon Force sold only about 150K. Less than 1/10 people owned or played Dragon Force. I havent met anyone in person who has played it before. Seems pretty forgotten to me, with how low its play rate.''

From Dust has only sold 50k copies per year on average worldwide since its release in 2011. Thats damn low numbers in the grand scheme of things.

Big Red One didnt even sell 10% as much as CoD 2 did.

Kirby Air Ride sold 422,311 copies in Japan and 750,000 in the United States, which is weirdly specific, but it just straight shows that on a google search. There were over 21 million GameCubes sold. Thats just around 5% of owners played Air Ride

Mark of Kri sold so little that the company hasnt made anything other than shit sports games since. I cant even find sales numbers for it.

Panzer Dragoon Orta sold less than 25000 copies in North America.

Go back to solitare, you geriatric fuck.

Most people havent heard of Earthbound. Youre making my point for me. The SNES sold 22,000,000 units in NA alone. when youre here, in an echo chamber of games enthusiasm, of course stuff is going to be more common knowledge. but when youre talking to the common person who had a SNES but didnt make a hobby out of it, theyre likely to have no idea what the hell youre talking about.

22.000.000/140.000 = 157143.

1 out of every 150K SNES (adjusting for resales at game stores a little bit) owners bought that game.

Yes, by doing the math, Earthbound, while popular to dedicated enthusiasts, is largely forgotten in the history of SNES owners. Please stop embarrassing yourself.

On another note this may be a good thread for me to ask around for an actual forgotten game that I liked as a kid. I used to play a PC game that had a sideways view, you could play around with spaceships in a fully destructable arena and you had a ton of weapons to mess around with, it was fun but I've completely forgotten the title and can't find it online at all.

Not until 2023, and presumably pending FTC approval.

Also, it's a game in a major franchise, so I imagine most people who've skimmed through the SNES's catalog remember it. Never played it myself, though.

I loved this one as a kid. It had really great atmosphere and I always liked the whole feel of it. A bit jank but pretty good for PSX.

I remember it being short but very fun nonetheless. >>8534674, on the other hand, I remember being pretty bad.

I think that out of the prequel PSX games the only one that somewhat holds up is Jedi Power Battles.

Captcha was PSX4A.
