Just so that we are clear. The megadrive was the most powerful console of the 16 bit generation and blew the amiga 500 and Atari st out of the water.

Amiga 1000 / 500 was very similar to the Mega Drive, but definitely had better hardware capabilities.
But they were also several years older than the Genesis / Mega Drive.

>>8484034
That's a CD32 though, it's so far ahead of the Mega Drive it isn't even funny.

>> No.8485105

>>8485091
Even though it was released early and unfinished, the CD32 was still very well specced for a console of it's time. I'm not talking about games or Commodore being a failure, I'm just talking purely about it's hardware.

>> No.8485194

>>8484943
The Mega Drive wasn't actually particularly highly specced compared to it's competition.
>Mega Drive: 7.6 mhz
>PC Engine: 7.6 mhz
>Amiga: 7.1 mhz
>Atari ST: 8 mhz
>X68000: 10 mhz
>Neo Geo: 12 mhz
The X68000 and Neo Geo being quite a bit faster obviously, but also far more expensive. The sole outlier here is the SNES, which runs at a mere 2.68 mhz stock, just ONE THIRD the speed compared to ALL it's competitors.

>> No.8485202

>>8485194
CPU architecture and system architecture played a bigger role than CPU clock speed, you can't really compare different systems only with clock speed, the differences can be huge in performance, one can be much faster even when the clock speed is lower.

>> No.8485206

>>8485194
>The sole outlier here is the SNES, which runs at a mere 2.68 mhz stock, just ONE THIRD the speed compared to ALL it's competitors.
Considering a 1MHz C64 was faster than a 4.7MHz 8088 based PC and the SNES has a newer version of the same CPU as the C64, doesn't seem that weird

>> No.8485213

>>8485194
I like how the X68000 started out with a pretty high clock speed but a few models later it was even slower than the relevant model Amiga of the same time

>> No.8485242

>>8485206
>>8485202
The SNES CPU uses a mere 8-bit data bus, the 68000 CPU used in all of those other examples aside the PC Engine uses a proper 16-bit data bus. The 68000 also offered multiply and divide, several times more registers, and twice the register size (32-bit compared to the SNES 16-bit). Clock speed is but one metric by which the SNES is thoroughly outclassed by ALL it's competitors.
And as for the PC Engine, it uses a CPU in the same series as the SNES CPU, with the same number of registers, and the same 8-bit data bus. It's simply 3 TIMES faster.

I legitimately do not get the appeal of this company aside from Sonic and like a handful of their other games. Skies of Arcadia was neat I guess but everything else they make just seems cheap and phoned in or just not even slightly fun.

Figured.
Sega is for arcade chads who like gameplay. If you don’t like real-time action with beautiful style (graphics + sound) you won’t like SEGA, simple as.
