Not OP, but I rented it from my local video store back when it came out, was annoyed that it wasn't more Link to the Past, and never got much further than the time change.
Meanwhile, when the Oracle series came out a few years later, I absolutely flipped shit over them, and they're still goats for me.
Only beat it when the 3DS version came out and enjoyed it more then. Still enjoyed the 3DS remake of Majora's Mask more, though.

I played through it in the early 2000s, before I had reliable internet access. I thought it was good, but I preferred Link to the Past, and I was blown away by Wind Waker when I played that a few years later.

I was actually quite surprised to learn that this thing was nearly universally acclaimed to be the best video game of all time when I first started reading into this stuff around 2006. I thought maybe I missed something and went back to replay it. It struck me as a very clunky, empty game, and reflecting on some of the tasks you had to do... unnecessarily obtuse (bombing a goron? Placing a fish in front of jabu-jabu?). I tried revisiting it again a few years ago and my opinion of the game continued to slide. It may have been an important step forward but it just doesn't hold up.

If we're going to be competing on "best game" title, I would say that in terms of mechanics and aesthetics, StarCraft has aged a hell of a lot better.

It's been speculated for a long time that the game means to suggest characters that become sages die before they do so. The most suggestive evidence for this theory is Darunia going off to fight Volvagia without the necessary equipment for it, and of course, you don't see him again until he sages up. There's no evidence for this happening to Ruto other than you don't see her after she leads you out of that one chamber, though. I don't think we're supposed to think too much of it all, as with many things in OoT.

Though OP is probably just having a goof, I will say I hated OoT the first time I played it. It was on the Wii VC because I never owned an N64 and playing it with the Gamecube controller was a nightmare and lead to more frustration than fun. So for 10 years I thought the game sucked, until I emu'd it two years ago and played it with a PS4 controller and it felt so smooth and satisfying. I can say I like the game a lot now, but it was a journey to get there.

And somehow, this leads to the events of Twilight Princess, where he's captured and sealed.

It goes like this: Link doesn't kill Ganondorf, but merely weakens him enough for the Sages to seal him away in the Sacred Realm. Now, originally, this was meant to lead into ALttP, where the Sacred Realm has become the Dark World (and if you pay attention, in OoT itself it is occasionally mentioned that the Sacred Realm had now become a realm of evil after Ganondorf took the Triforce of Power), and Ganondorf, now known as Ganon, is still residing there.

However, they later decided to retcon that into him escaping the seal prematurely with no Hero of Time left to stop him because he went back in time, thus the gods deciding to flood Hyrule to stop him, leading to the events of TWW.

Going back to OoT's ending, Link himself is sent back to his original time, though apparently to a time before the events of the beginning of the game took place, so Ganondorf had yet to attempt to stage his coup. Link doesn't stick around for long and eventually goes on a quest which we know as the events of MM, but not before apparently teaming up with Zelda to convince the king that Ganondorf is a traitorous bastard, and when he attempts to stage his coup, the castle is ready and the coup is squashed and Ganondorf captured. However, because PLOT, he still gets the Triforce of Power, and he ends up getting sealed in the Twilight Realm by the Sages. Many years later, TP happens.

Not really, he literally slept through puberty and most of his teen years, and the adult portion of his journey can't have taken that long to complete, certainly not years. At one point the game just tells you that he matured, but that can only reasonable refer to his qualities as a hero/adventurer/combatant. Surely he's still a kid regarding other aspects of life, which he's now free to explore.
Still, now that he knows he's a Hylian it really doesn't make sense to live with the Kokiris anymore. Eventually he'd get dirty looks taking Saria on dates.

Also: the "Z targeting" system that was supposedly invented in OoT has it's roots in at least 6 other games that predated it. Some of which predated it by several years. And several other prominent games used similar systems within months ofOoT's release. Meanwhile ing there's no way the feature was just shoved in last second. All that happened here was Nintendo was the first to LABEL auto aim, and so got credit for it.
