I grew up as a PC gamer in a country ravaged by piracy. I have no emotional attachment to physical media.

i only buy hardware and i but it from Facebook marketplace or on eBay

>> No.8482186

FB marketplace. Sometimes I go thrifting though, and I recommend volunteering for one if possible, specifically as the electronics tester. Its rare but if you're in a decently sized town/city you'll be surprised at the stuff you can find.

I don't buy games, but I do buy cartridges with which to house my games.

I used to buy retro games, but they got so expensive that I just get everything from archive.org now.

I still get stuff from my local game shop because I know the people there and they are cool as shit. Been shopping with them since they opened like 12 years ago. Gotten a lot of good shit from them for cheap and they always do lower then ebay prices. Havent been shopping at them as much as I used to because they moved their location so im not passing it every day I go to/back from work. I was going in there like 3 times a week and I have no doubt for a while I was easily throwing more cash at them then any other customer. The owner owned 3 stores at the time and had a shit load of stock at his house, so I could mention a title and he would be able to find it and bring it to me and would let me shop from their stock not even put out for sale yet.

Besides that, I have been going full Jap for pretty much anything I want a physical copy of and the language barrier is not massive. Also just any game conventions I go to, I will pick up some stuff, but mostly anything I still want is retarded priced stuff.

>local brick and mortar game stores
do people really? Used game stores always have prices that are WORSE than ebay, without any of the convenience of not needing to go somewhere and rummage through bins to *maybe* find something you want. Not to mention ebay buyer protection if someone tries to sell you a broken console or bootleg game.
Used game stores haven't been worthwhile since almost a decade ago

You're going to the wrong stores. In Pittsburgh for example places like The Exchange will have batshit prices and if you have issues with the game they are incredibly picky about giving you cash back, store credit is what they push so you get jew'd out of cash. On the other hand a store in the outskirts like Warp Zone in Greensburg is a small place run by people who actually give a fuck about playing games and prices them well below what the chains around here try to scalp because keeping the games accessible is better than pissing off your customer base by raping their wallet. Go drive around anon.

I don't buy games anymore unless I find them at Goodwill or another thrift store for exceptionally-cheap. Everdrives and ODE's have made coomlecting obsolete to me.

With that said, I still go on eBay or check with Vintage Stock and some other brick and mortars for peripherals like light guns, memory cards, rhythm game controllers, etc. from time to time.

Ebay is still the best place to buy used games.
You just want to buy games for less than they are worth.
If you want to go to three dozen yard sales to buy five NES games for a dollar each have at it, but sane people pay $10-20 per cart and then actually play the game when it arrives instead of putting it on a shelf.

Not them, but I finally started buying flashcarts. I'm allowing myself to buy one per year. So far I have a Turbo Everdrive and a GBA X5 Mini. Totally worth the money so far.

I have basically everything I need but if not, eBay is your friend. Small brick and mortar shops can do good deals too sometimes
