Can you guys recommend me a good component component switchbox? My TV only has one component input. Pic related is the first thing that comes up on amazon.

those are fine but only have 3 inputs. What I do is use the composite switchers but I have two of them taped together. The selectors match up to the console but on top I have video only, on the bottom I have audio only. I notice no loss in quality and I can have 8 systems hooked up.

>>8479123
but if i only need 3 inputs it is fine and wont degrade the signal as long as my cables are good?

>> No.8479148

>>8479146
Should be fine. These things are cheap and they aren't built great so once in a while I notice the picture gets slightly out of whack so I smack them and they fix themselves. Tells me the connections to the PCB aren't great but I don't care. If you plan on getting more than 3 consoles hooked up over compoopy consider my approach, it'll save you some money. Really though if you're on a CRT you won't notice any loss in signal quality.

Any physical unpowered switch should be fine. It's just changing a circuit, no different than how a light switch works. You really can't go wrong with any of the unpowered ones.

that's not to say powered switchboxes are bad. It's just that with those you actually need to worry about the quality of shielding and whatnot because shitty ones can cause noise and interference, whereas with physical unpowered you really can't fuck it up

Don't have any specific recommendations. Like I said, physical switches are all the same shit and you can't fuck things up going with any of them. Just a question of how many inputs you need and and that's it.

With powered switchers, then you do need to put in a little more research to make sure it's good. Another anon mentioned Extron. I actually do use a heavy duty extron crosspoint matrix switcher with a shitload of inputs, but they can be a pain in the ass to set up (need BNC adapters, phoenix connectors and adapters, etc) and they're not as cheap as they used to be. But they're god-tier if you're using a mix of component and RGB inputs. But I think that's a bit overkill for your situation, probably.

>> No.8479248

>>8479238
the one in the OP is physical right?

>> No.8479254

>>8479248
Yeah. There's no power cable and the front is just going to have three buttons you physically push in for that input, like a light switch.
If you don't need more than 3 inputs then I don't think you can go wrong with that one.

>> No.8479458

Curious, what systems are you hooking up through component? I'm gonna guess PS2, Xbox, and Wii.

PC PS2 Wii U and PS3 all through the retrotink 5x for upscaling. Though I will probably only use the ps3 component for downscaling ps one games. It depends on how I feel about it when testing it out with normal ps3 games. I hear that the slim ps3 cannot output 1080p with component.

I lucked out and got those really fucking good radioshack component switchers and splitters for cheap. They're some of the best quality devices for this shit and they're only getting harder to find for less than $30USD now thata Radioshack is kill well now it's owned by a new company but the new stuff is horseshit.

I had one of these, and I had lots of issues with sync dropping on Dreamcast. This was 8 years ago and I was feeding composite straight into an HDTV though. Nowadays I have an OSSC and all these stupid fucking SCART cables, I wish I had stayed ignorant.

That will probably be fine, it's just a load of sockets and switches to bridge the connection to the output. Bonus that it's passive, you don't have to power it. I use a composite one on my pvm similar to this and its great, especially that it doesn't require a power source

How hard would it be to just built a switcher yourself? I guess there's the issue of having to built a good switching mechanism between the sources but the job would be like 99% wiring some RCA jacks together and screwing them into a box.

Okay, good. I thought RetroG moved onto something else. Since I got the gScartSW JP21 edition, but opted to just get only one to not burden him instead of being greedy and asking for two. No one else uses JP21 so he placed the files for open source production/ That leaves no one else around to make a group buy to make more gScartSW (JP21 editions). I was afraid the same was done with the gCompSW too.

>> No.8481675

do these introduce input lag? I still have a CRT which I use for my older consoles since they spaz out on my newer TV. But my CRT only has 1 component input, and I have a PS2 and Xbox which use it. It's a pain to switch them, but I don't want to give up the smoother experience for some convenience.

Anyone have experience with buying scart switchers on aliexpress? Don't wanna wait for a gscartsw.

>> No.8481794

>>8481675
Purely mechanical switch shouldn't cause lag, though if the connections are poor or you're using cables that are too long it might cause signal quality issues. Electronic switches (like you see with typical HDMI switchers) may cause lag but it's usually negligible at worst.

this is from one brainlet to another but you don't mean for component do you? First off, that sounds like a clusterfuck in terms of cable management and secondly I don't see how you're going to output ypbpr this way, even though they're all RCA connectors.

Yes one for y/pb/pr and one for audio.
It's not a digital signal so it should work perfectly.

jesus christ why the fuck. Is there such an improvement in getting something like this over a 70 dollar switch on Aliexpress? It's just switching a signal current isn't it?
