Ultra creepy rare game "Garage"

Garage is a adventure game.
Where the palyer explores a surrealistic mechanical world of strange beings and odd machines.
The main goal is unknown atm. It's mainly your basic puzzle adventure game but has some interesting looking mechanics.

Thank you for your email and kind words about my past products. It is always nice to hear from people who appreciated some of my work from when the game industry was still young and growing. I do interviews but because of my schedule, I ask people to prepare a list of questions and email them to me. I try to answer the questions in a timely manner and submit a reply.

Regarding copies of my games: When Symmetry Entertainment was closed, we had a break in and all copies of our products were stolen (including my framed gold masters). You may wish to try and reach someone at Kinotrope in Tokyo as we co-produced Garage and Suikoden with them and they may have copies available. I have not been in touch with them for over 10 years and no longer have any contact information though.

I'm also glad to hear that you enjoyed Tyrian 2000 and Revenge of Shinobi as they were also some of my favorites to produce.

Kind regards,

Christopher Bankston

FUCKNIG AWESOME ok ok

So this sucks that he lost all his copies and symmetry got their shit stolen.
So he said we should contact Kinotrope.
I wonder what will happen.
Also I hope HCG101 wishes to interview him about Revenge of the Shinobi and Tyrian 2000

Quick and dirty translation of the synopsis, it's readable but not great:
"Garage is a 1999 adventure game for PC released by Kinotrope. These excessively bizarre settings and strange characters have been supported passionately by some enthusiasts. And this is not a shallow game with deliberately odd subject matter, if you think about the strangeness in the details then you can tell it has been meticulously crafted. The game mechanics and balance together are a splendid occurrence. (The frog fishing mini game is seriously too fun.) There aren't many people who know about Garage, but if you have an interest in this game, you should certainly try to visit the official Garage website."

From reading the section on that website about frog hunting, it doesn't really describe the mechanics so well, but from what I can gather you can catch a few different types of frogs, and crabs, you can find different frogs in different places for which you need different bait like Frog Oil and Crab Miso, and netting rarer ones gives you a higher something (the table says "Stamp" so I'm just not sure about that one).

Hey everyone, I got intrigued so half-assedly translated the opening, not that it really helps understand the plot that much (it looks like either the wider plot is in the manual or it unfolds as the game goes on):

>This is “Garage”.
>Please sit down in there.
>Yes, there is good.
>At first you may feel a sense of vertigo, but please bear through it.
>Oh, your name was...
>Yan, yes?
>Well then, Yan, are you ready?
>Are you uneasy about anything?
>It will be okay, please trust “Garage”.
>You will undoubtedly be able to attain the thing you desire.
>...sneak...ers...
>...my...
>...sneakers...

And the letter on the desk at the beginning (I have no idea what adaptability means, it's also translated as "adjustment" and "conforming" but your guess is as good as mine):

To people who wake up in this room:
You were floating in some dirty water. By chance when I was trying to leave my house you arrived in the stream in front of my house, you know. Your adaptability was falling extremely quickly so I attempted to restore you, but you didn't regain consciousness. If you read this, then I hope you visit the machine called Hajime. It is the machine that lives immediately to the left of this house. I think it will teach you about the Adaptation Hall. If you go there then restoring adaptability is possible. If you are able to do this then please escape from this unseemly world. This world is not the right world. You should chase down your own shadow. Everything begins from there, doesn't it?
Sheng. [name, probably]
I forgot to write this, but at the winch which is on the left hand side when you go from the house, my fish bait is set up. It's not problem if you freely use it.

Here's a synopsis of the game world from the website of the 2004 re-release (I think) of the game:

Garage – this strange equipment is said to work upon the test subject's subconscious and invents a strange, dark world. The place the protagonist is thrown into is a locked space in which every area is filled with seemingly ruined wooden buildings and rusty metal. And, as the protagonist's body is both a machine and a living thing and he does not breathe, he discovers that everything has completely changed. The protagonist wanders around a world that is like a complexly constructed maze. Search for the exit from this world.

Here's a description of the thing the player is looking for (I can't tell if it's an antagonist), it's the girl thing from the front of the box:

Shadow is the being with the most enigmas wrapped around it. It has a largely human, or at least a close to human appearance. However, Shadow, who looks over this world, is protected by an overbearing set of equipment. Where this is, however, seems to be fleeting. But, why is it called Shadow? What in the world is the meaning of this being? Why is Shadow protected through that kind of equipment? At the moment, these are still not things that are known at all.

Here is the artist that did the concept art for Garage. Click on "publication", then "garage" (left side and right side respectively) and there is a whole guide to the game world. You'll have to put it through a translator but I've been able to glean some details about the game world from the Engrish that resulted.

This art style is so unnerving, I love it. Its like an unholy unity of MC Escher, a Victorian china-doll maker, and Tim Burton if they all had schizophrenia and dropped 3 tabs of LSD together.

It's a list of things that a character on the Garage message boards said, whether it be hints or nonsense. Not going to translate that.

/x/ is shit, they haven't been remotely good since 07. They won't even care either, they're too busy tripfagging and summoning MLP tulpa's.

I'm quite excited that someone is going to get their hands on this though.

where is Garage?

>> No.860069

Just watched a playthrough of Garage's finale, at the end it pops out that the whole thing was made in Macromedia. Not that that's a bad thing, kinda neat in fact.

Not going to post links cause don't want to spoil the game beforehand.
