Does the retrotink 5x work well for emulating games on the ps3 or wii U?
What are the best ps2 settings for use on a 1080p monitor?

No. Not sure what that has to do with my post.

???????

Retro Tink is a ADC Module used to connect retro consoles to modern displays

Yes. If you dont know ps1 games on the ps3 are upscaled. and I think it is the same with wii and gamecube games on the wii u.

>> No.8475818

>>8475741
Why would you need it for ps3 or wiiu? The games on those systems are rendered at the system output res but with original internal resolution upscaling them is pointless.

>> No.8475823

>>8475812
Why are you using a Retro Tink for a PS3 to begin with? There's a fucking HDMI port on the console.

>I think it is the same with wii and gamecube games on the wii u
No. They run in it's native resolution. Also, the Pii U is not retro.

Like I said, for ps1 roms which run better on the ps3 than the ps2 but are upscaled to 1080p

But why would you bother using an upscaler with a console that has an HDMI port, especially if your endgame is just using a 1080p monitor

The games I want to run on it are. so what does it matter?

So I can get the game to run at its original resolution without getting a new monitor. you know the retrotink can downscale right?

Jesus fucking christ, stop sucking corporate cock and use Duckstation outputted to a HD TV/Monitor. It's literally exactly what you want with more options and at a fraction of the cost.

Does duckstation do wii, gamecube or ps2? Why so anal about this? I just want suggestions for what settings I should set the retrotink to for those systems.

Dolphin is arguably better than real hardware and pcsx2 isn't bad depending on the game you're playing

well I already have a ps2 with an ssd so I may as well make it look as good as possible.

Suit yourself I guess. If I were in your shoes I would go with the 2X Multiformat since it's over $100 cheaper than the 5X. I just keep a CRT around for 480i, myself

>> No.8476234

>>8476226
can the 2x do 1080p?

>> No.8476245

OP seems confused so I'll try to answer.

The retro tink is for taking low resolution consoles and upscaling it to a modern resolution and output like HDMI.

If you're using a PS3, you already have a modern resolution and output. The PS3 doesn't play PS1 games at their native resolution, so you won't be upscaling that with a ps3 and retro tink.

Same issue with the Wii U. You're just adding processing to the video chain if this is what you want to do with no benefits.

>> No.8476248

>>8476234
Nope, but that's pretty pointless considering what I just said about dolphin, what another anon said about duckstation and taking into account that you own both a PS2 and a PS3 for playing pirated PS2 games. The PS2 is better than a PS3 in that aspect and can't output 1080p, so why bother?

>> No.8476265

>>8476245
but you can also downscale or add scanlines

>Does duckstation do wii, gamecube or ps2?
Your PS3 isn't going to do any of that plus Dolphin exists.
>Why so anal about this?
I could ask you the exact same thing.
You're obsessed with buying a shitty upscaler when you have much better options right in front of you, saying you don't want to use a shitty emulator when the PS1 Classics Emulator is worse than Duckstation and plays less games.
If you're using a Wii to emulate everything else + GCN that's even more laughable when you say you don't want to use a shitty emulator.

the wii u does gamecube and wii. and the ps2 does ps2.

you to run roms through an emulator unless you have a modchip... ps2 is only good for discs.

>> No.8479117

You’re going to spend how much money on a retrotink just so you can have scan lines? Further more your tv is probably processing the image at a higher resolution automatically anyways.
Seriously though, just use a pc and get a scan line filter.

You know what OP, buy two of them

>> No.8480484

>>8475741
PS3 over component or composite does not run at 240p, anon. Same with Wii U. You're literally making it worse not using the onboard HDMI instead.

>> No.8480836

>>8476245
I wouldn't use a downscaler for PS3 or Wii-U, with the way they emulate older games using a downscaler would make the image look worse than native. I'm interested in getting a retrotink5x for ps2 since I'm not happy at all with how my OSSC handles ps2 games and ps2 running on og hardware needs a lot of help to look good enough for capture

>> No.8481684

OP's retardation aside, what's the cheapest option for getting a decent picture from a PS2 to an HD monitor? I bought one of those $5 chink HDMI adapters just to see how it does and it's an awful blurry mess. I don't really want to have to drop hundreds of dollars on a retrotink 5x, especially since this is the only console I would be using it with.

>> No.8482406

>>8481684
retrotink is coming out with a ps2 cable with the r5x circuitry inline sometime this year, hopefully for around $100. They raffled off the first prototype last month.

>> No.8482796

>>8481684
GBS-Control if you can DIY. For PS2 it has motion adaptive deinterlacing (that is the main advantage of RT5X over OSSC). Accepts component and VGA, you can make a simple SCART module for it too.
All the necessary components should cost you around $50-60. A bit of soldering here and there and you get a pretty good upscaler for a fraction of the price of RetroTINK.
