The guy behind LSD has a whole videography of fucked-up cheesy yet disturbing psychedelic games.

>what's this garage game?
Another obscure surreal game unrelated to LSD, described by most around here as Junji Ito, H.R. Giger and Miyazaki's lovechild. Not as underground as the sequel to Eastern Mind seeing as there's a ton of google results available for the jap title, but still pretty fucking obscure.

Is Osamu Satou living? According to various news sources he is dead, but we don't think that.

Just want to add:

If he sells this, he will be breaking the law. I'm not sure about Japanese copyright laws, but making money off of someone else's work is extremely illegal in North America.

Sharing the game for free is legal in North America, however. As much as we'd like to pay the owner of the Chu Teng discs (be it for support or incentive), it would be in both our and his best interest to leave money out of it.

Trust me, I read a thing about it one time.

Mushrooms are not very fun for me. I spent a while habitually doing DXM when I was younger and really enjoyed the few times I've done ketamine. LSD and Tong Nou really remind me more of dissociative psychedelics rather than the more well known and typical ones. Definitely seen some shit very similar to Osamu Sato's creations on higher doses of DXM or K.

>Various threads about the game on /vr/ spark a hunt
>An anon in those threads knows of a Japanese game collector who owns the game and could possibly rip the disc and share it
>Japanese guy doesn't want to rip the game due to legal concerns
>More researching leads to a picture of Eastern Mind, Chuten, and another mysterious game side by side on a Japanese website
>Mystery game turns out to be an adventure game called GARAGE which is not related to Osamu Sato's work, but another unknown game has been recovered
>Later on, an anon browsing the thread claims to have a copy of Chuten in his basement

I'm writing an FAQ (yeah, really, in this day and age) of LSD, and am a bit stumped with the actual FAQ section. What do you guys suppose are the most common questions people tend to ask?
I've already got answers to what's up with the flashing water, what you should do if you get scared by it easily, and where to find more games like LSD.

I'm going to play Eastern Mind for the first time later today, and have a few questions.

What's the story-line of the game? (or is it explained in-game?) The descriptions in these threads have either been vague or focused on one part.

Any tips/tricks/strategies?

Is there a need for any of those things?

Weed helps, right?

I mean, I've played LSD, and that has some weird quirky stuff you can find by doing ridiculously random things, but is this the same?

You'll want to make sure you set your Mac resolution a little higher than default, otherwise Chu-Teng will be too big to fit on the screen. I just tried 800x600 and it gives the game plenty of room (though it doesn't take up the full screen).

Hey, wow, does this mean you guys actually found chu-teng? I remember reading an interview with Sato and he said that he had no idea where it was, that it had popped up on Japanese ebay maybe once or twice. That's great, I didn't know anyone was even interested in Eastern Mind, I always thought it was under appreciated in comparison to LSD.
I have this collection of posters Sato did for each letter of the alphabet, "Alphabetical Orgasm", I don't remember where I downloaded it from but I don't know if you guys already found these? They're in a folder called Transcript Pictures, also included is a folder of Tong-nou characters, with a few extra wallpapers.

Okay, I've made an idiot-proof archive of Basilisk II in case anybody still has problems.
It uses relative paths, so it doesn't matter where and how you name the folders.
It also includes every necessary dll in case you haven't installed GTK+.

Archive: http://www.share-online.biz/dl/Y1WY7FPM0N

Step 1: Move "em2_chuteng.dmg" into the same folder as BasiliskII.exe (It's not included in the archive).
Step 2: Open BasiliskII.exe

You can ignore the message about cdenable.sys.
The driver doesn't work for 64 bit, and it's not necessary anyway.
It seems to be a CD driver, but we won't need it to run Chu-Teng.

Ah, of course this is intended for Windows users.
I myself use Win7 64 bit, and it runs without problems.

Same reason as Chu-Teng, I guess? No advertisement and stuff like that. There's a lot of those kind of adventures from that time period that are very hard to find because the software houses that made them are dead and nobody has the source code anymore. Yesterday I spent some hours searching for an italian adventure game where you play as a blind man (in fact, even blind people can play the game from what I've heard) which I eventually found, but only because a few people from a forum searched for it and eventually uploaded it on the internet. That forum is the only place where you can download that game or find some information on it on the entire internet.

Blindness!
I couldn't get it to work on my computer because of some error but other people have said it work fine on theirs. Guess it's just some problems with mine, and I can't be arsed to install win98 on a partition or something like that.
Because I couldn't get it to work I'm not even sure if it's in english too or just in Italian.
Here's the download though, you could always try.

Just backtrack a little, some guy will give you a purple/green thing, give it to the grey things attacking you when you get to the door.
Wander around the purple maze a little bit more and you'll find another guy who'll give you a broken piece of something. Give that to the golden fishes who are going apeshit over you.

PRELIMINARY: Make sure you have this installed, or Basilisk won’t work properly. http://www.emaculation.com/basilisk/gtk+-2.10.13-setup.exe
1. Download the following file: https://mega.co.nz/#!kcsWSBhC!Q1C8cgZLtGGxjt5qi2KVoERGBVtH_-a_00ay98qz3do
2. Extract the contents of the .zip somewhere where you’ll find them.
3. Find them and open up the file called “BasiliskIIGUI.exe". In the Volumes tab, remove both of the files in there. Then, click “Add…" and find, in the BasiliskII folder, ‘install.hfv’ and ‘em2_chuteng.dmg’.
4. In the Memory/Misc tab, change the ‘MacOS RAM Size (MB)’ to 16, and then click ‘Browse…’ and find, in the BasiliskII folder, ‘PERFORMA.ROM’ and click that.
5. Then, make sure that in ‘Graphics/Sound’, the Width is set to 800 and the Height is set to 600.
6. Click ‘Start’ in the bottom left corner of the Basilisk II GUI, and Chu-Teng should be ready to play!

Sorry, I had to leave for a couple hours. First extract the contents of the .bin and get a .smi I believe. After that put it in the basilisk shared folder so you can use it in the emulator. Put the .smi file in the "installerparts" disk, double click to get another program, and then double click that to start the install. Press the highlighted buttons and the mac should update to the japanese version. Tell me if these instructions work, sorry for not helping earlier.
