This was surprisingly good. The devs did a pretty good job of replicating the (then) next gen versions of levels and gameplay while staying within the PS1's restrictions, even if it means it feels more like an expansion pack to THPS 2 at times.

It came out long after the PS2 had launched, I remember one of the major reviews for the game was basically "If you're still stuck with just a PS1, what the hell else are you gonna buy?"

I remember getting THPS3 on PS1 for Christmas the year it was released, but the framerate was so bad compared to the first two games I just couldn't get into it. It really was awful. Surprisingly THPS4 on PS1 improved on 3 in that aspect.

I looked down on the PS1 version in 2002 because it was rated E, wasn't made by Neversoft directly, and didn't come close to the PS2 version in terms of graphics, features, or framerate.
I gradually came to appreciate it for what it is. It made quite a few concessions to run on older hardware but it's still a full game in its own right that had a lot of additional stuff over 2.

One guy here claimed it leaked in 2000 with rock solid certainty and according to every source I can find it leaked in 2003.
I owned a Dreamcast since Christmas 1999 and got an internet connection in 2001 and I was not aware of Half-Life even being announced until much later on because I was a child.
If you grew up (IE you are a child when you played this) with a burned copy of a leaked build of Half Life DC, that puts you in an extreme minority of people.

Me as well. I think it did lack the ride armor segments also but had a turbo mode option to make the game run even faster. The pc version of X5 was also my only version for a long time.

I really liked Fatal Fury as a kid despite not owning Neogeo hardware. The only versions i had were:
-Fatal Fury 1 on snes
-fatal fury 2 (special) on game gear
-fatal fury 3 on pc (which was pretty accurate and obviously one i spent most time with)

Later when NeoGeo Pocket Colors were being liquidated, i got one and the FF game for that.

I also had a very gimped version of Megaman X3 from a pirate disc. It was missing BGM on top of lacking the 3D nuances that the cartridge had. I didn't spend very much time on it.
