Never had a PSX, wanting to experience it.

What are the must play games, preferably ones that still hold up.

Thanks.

Personally, I don't have a lot of PS1 games beaten, but I recommend Persona 2 Innocent Sin (you'll probably have to emulate the translated version unless you know moonrunes), Crash Team Racing, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Mega Man Legends, and Mega Man X4-X6

I'd add Chrono Cross if you're into RPGs, Rayman and maybe Croc if you're into platformers. Don't skimp out on Crash Team Racing, either, it's pretty unanimously considered to be one of, if not the absolute best kart racer ever.

Why do know it all 90's shitkids try to lord the ps2 dvr over people like it's some sweet nugget of gaming trivia only they know about

No kids, we know of it, we literally just don't care about it. I'm not sure if a good majority of the japs even know about it either.

Can you give me a brief non spoilery synopsis of VS?

i realize what a pretentious and lazy thing that is to ask, but i want to know what an actual fellow gamer thinks of it instead of reading some shitty blog that spoils the story or an official review that smacks of "better bust out the buzzwords"

>> No.845959

>>845950

It's been five or six years since I did a playthrough, so I'm sorry but I can't really give you a synopsis of the story.

I first got this game in 2001, without knowing anything about it, due to a recommendation from a GameStop employee. It was a cheap, used copy, so I said what the hell. The game quickly grew on me, and I found myself rushing home every night to play it. In 2006 or 2007, I replayed it just to see if my nostalgia goggles were justified, and I ended up ejaculating prismatic strands of joy over how good it was. It's definitely my favorite Square game of the PSX era. Just give it a try. It might start out slow, but you'll get sucked in.

Wipeout was mentioned, but you might prefer one of its two sequels. Of the three racers, Wipeout XL/2097 was probably the most popular.

C-12: Final Resistance is a fun little game that isn't especially original-- it's a futuristic alien invasion action game that plays something like a combo of Silent Hill and Syphon Filter-- but a complete, non-grody copy can be had for cheap due its late release and lack of hype, so you might try it out.

Good game, great soundtrack. I only wish multiplayer were more feasible, but then it was an early release.

Technically, he is correct.
At the same time, the PlayStation was already named PSX way before the PlayStation X was released.
The consumer is never wrong.

I'd say the fault's on the creators of the PSX. They didn't study well the market/consumer habits and named their console PSX while the PlayStation was already being named PSX.

>> No.849687

On the whole PSX thing, I personally like to say PS or PS1 since the PSX is actually a literally named console different from the PS1, but it is still true that other people used PSX to refer to the PS1 before the dvr thing came out.

I just personally don't still refer to Final Fantasy IV and VI as II and III just because that's what I knew them as when I was a kid. Now that I know that those titles refer to different things, it just seems proper to use the unique titles rather than the ones that share their name with other existing games.

Still, PSX is hardly ever talked about except for when people get all autistic about it, so it's not like anyone in these things is actually trying to clarify what you're referring to rather than just being autistic for the sake of it.
