as someone who also LOVES GOLF

neo turf is good enough for the arcade-y experience but tiger woods 2004 is the best blend of arcade feel and realism. it's very rpg-like since you'll create your own character, increase stats, play a career spanning as many years as you want etc. real and fictional courses.

so basically tiger woods 2004 or 2005 for ps2, xbox or gamecube. '04 has better courses, '05 has an added mechanic for loft control.

06 got cheap and '07 was okay. after that it sucked until 2012 but '12 had shitty putting and tiger woods 2013 and '14 are pretty great but not very arcadey.

again...tiger woods 2004 or 5.

It’s golf cranked up on cocaine. Aside from being full of cheesy SNK engrish and some of the best sprite animations you’ll probably ever see, it’s just such a ridiculous yet simple and fun game. The entire cast of characters are just gruff middle aged men who pull off ridiculous celebratory animations whenever you get a good shot. It’s basically on the cusp of descending into complete chaos, and the fast pace of the game makes the whole thing feel incredibly jacked up and lively. Music is great too

I feel like you might be overselling it a bit. It’s fun and a little silly but not wacky loony. It’s so great because it’s incredibly easy to pick up, simple to learn but hard to master. Hell even my wife who hates both golf and most 2d games loves turf masters.
