The N64? Really? There are so many better consoles out there. The library isn't that great, there are like 10 great games that EVERYONE has. It's such a boring console now.

A good retro console is one with games that are still surfacing, like hidden gems. Of course, these games also have to stand the test of time. The N64 only does one of these things, so it's essentially a nostalgia console. No one goes back and plays a new game on an N64. It's always the same fucking games, playing Star Fox 64 or OOT over and over again.

It was also my favourite console OP, despite the terrible controller (it wouldn't have been so bad if the analog sticks didn't get worn out).

Those four player local multiplayer days when you were 12 were just too much fun. GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros, WCW/nWo Revenge and the rest of the THQ wrestling games... fuck we had a blast. Then it had those godly SP games that took ages to beat or get 100%. Mario 64 and OoT alone justified that console.

Definitely the happiest days of my gaming life. Those were the golden years of gaming though ('97-'99) and everything was rocking from N64 to PSX to PC. Goddamn those were some great times.

It wasn't just Nintendo. Sega and Sony as well. All of those consoles had 2D games for them, though the N64 has far less of them. The Saturn is filled with 2D games, and the PS1 has quite a few as well.

So it was MURRICAN POWER that killed 2D gaming. They wanted to show off "REAL THREE DEE", despite glaring flaws in them. And as flawed as the N64 was, at least the models didn't wobble when they so much as moved as they did on the PS1 and less noticeably on the Saturn.

Plays a lot smoother and is voice acted and looks way better. I've played 3DO and ps1 versions of WC3 and both are great but the FMVs look better on the 3DO.

Lucienne's Quest is worth a burn if you like JRPGs with zero grinding. The characters are likable and it has some Strategy RPG lite game play that I really enjoy. Wish I could find a legit copy for muh shelf.

You have a gropey hand icon and you point to the clothing you want the lady to remove. If you do it in the right sequence she gets fully nude and a beefy man arm comes into frame to grope all over her. The best consoles are the ones who have so many awesome games that many go under the radar, I think the best consoles are likely the NES or SNES, the N64 is when the Nintendo train started slowing down and they lost almost all their 3rd party support.

The PSX is a better machine, and if you can read nip or patch the games even the Saturn is a better console.

There is just something special about Nintendo that makes us regard it as better than it was......

Wii was an abnormally weak piece of crap but the better designed console of the bunch. WiiU is weak gimmick crap as well. It doesn't help that Nintendo is the most self conceited entity in all of gaming but the hardware certainly isn't conductive to getting third parties.

I've owned almost every major console since 1985, almost all of them when they were still relevant if not purchased at launch, and I think the N64 is easily the worst "major" console (basically excluding stuff like the 3D0 and NeoGeo AVS) to date.

Did it have SOME awesome exclusive games? Definitely. The problem is that key word some. Outside of a very limited number of great games the overall library was complete dog shit but even worse was the fact that it was not only a year late to the party compared to the Saturn and PS1 but it didn't have shit to offer for over a damn year!

From it's launch in 1996 until the beginning of fucking 1998 there were only 65 games released WORLD WIDE.

Fighting games? N64 has the worst fighting game library of all time. The ONLY game worth mentioning is Smash Bros. This will tell you how bad it is: After Smash Bros the highest rated fighting game was Mortal Kombat 4. A console without fighting games can never be great as it is one of THE defining console genres.

>> No.841823

Not sure how anyone could think the N64 controller was good. The ONLY thing it had going for it was the analog stick which BTW was NOT a Nintendo innovation. Sega had analog arcade controls and it is now known that the Saturn 3D pad was in development well before the N64 analog controller was concieved even though the Saturn 3D pad was released just a smidge later. The bottom line being no one was fvcking "following" Nintendo. Sega was releasing the 3D pad N64 or not as they had already design it first and it was known in the industry that analog control would be needed to really take advantage of 3D game movement.

And actually since most 3D games of that era were actually shit anyway in terms of movement with only very few games really maximizing 3D movement possibilities the Saturn's standard game pad was easily the best controller in a huge number of games even with it being primarily a "2D" controller.

>> No.841834

>Sega had analog arcade controls and it is now known that the Saturn 3D pad was in development well before the N64 analog controller was concieved even though the Saturn 3D pad was released just a smidge later.
