Post some absolutely comfy vidya that you can complete in one sitting/over the course of one day. Like watching a great movie on a day off with nothing on your schedule.

I plan on having a day off to myself soon and want to play some great vidya.

Bump.

My personal favourite Tony Hawks game, with THPS 2 coming in second.

Parasite Eve is my go to game to play Christmas week. Since I got my shit maxed out I just steamroll through battles and enjoy the comfy aesthetic

>> No.8400234

I'm by no means the biggest fan of NiGHTS, but having tried out the Christmas demo/"sampler", I really did enjoy messing around with it's cutesy music and 3D graphics. Plus since it's the opening stage just with plenty of unlockables, there's reasons to go back and replay it or just pick up and play it whenever you feel like it..

Glider Pro, one of the best-loved 1990s Mac games, now open source and ported to PC/Android.

Every "house" file is a standalone scenario that can be completed in one sitting.

OP here,

Some good replies in this thread, I'm gonna make a list of all the games so far and try them out.

NAMCO arcade ports on the PS1 are ultra ludo. Especially Time Crisis with a black JP Guncon.

>> No.8401680

I think I would say:
FTL
Into the Breach
Doom
Bastion
Braid
Frog Fractions (if it has your sense of humor, you'll know pretty early)
Halo (might be a little long)
Hotline Miami
Katawa Shoujo
LIMBO (I wasn't crazy about it, but I'll toss it out there)
Max Payne
Portal
Quake
World of Goo (kind of repetitive IMO, but I'm trying to cover lots of genres here)

>>8400256
I think that's true, but Pokemon isn't at its best when you're rushing it.
>>8400132
SH1 is definitely a top-notch choice for this. And good thread idea.

OP here,

I for sure want to get time crisis on the ps1 with a gun con. why the black jp one? just because it looks cooler?

>>8401680
Thanks for the list, SH1 is really good. I completed it twice so I could get the good+ ending.

>>8401693
Dang I forgot about Shadow of the Empire! Used to play the shit out of that when I was younger. There's something about the atmosphere/environment that makes it a really interesting game, but I can't put my finger on it.

If you didn't know, you can actually fly out of Hoth passed the mountains and the game gets really glitchy.

yes
Whatever you do don't buy generic ones, they all suck and are imprecise as fuck.

Comfy as all fuck and can be 100% completed in 6-8 hours no sweat.

You can of course relax and take it slower, there's plenty of reason to do so, but even if you do, you can still reach the ending in only a few hours if you're not trying to 100%.

Both Silent Hill and Soul Reaver are what I (arbitrarily) consider "morning games". The type of games I would rush to play when I got out of bed during my childhood. They had this peaceful aura to them which I greatly enjoyed during that time of the day, even though this feeling contradicted the context of their worlds.
There were a few others, like MGS and FInal Fantasy IX (which you can't finish in just one sitting, but whatever)

>peaceful aura
Uh?... wherein, exactly? It has a unique feel to it, to be sure, but "peaceful" seems like a stretch, given all of the things hunting you in the mist at all times.

I feel the same about people calling it comfy. How the fuck is SH comfy. They must be playing it in the morning too/wrong atmosphere.

SSX3 is genuinely a super comfy snowboarding game. i really enjoy the atmosphere compared to other sports games. being able to free ride down the entire mountain in one go in 2004 blew me away when i was a kid. i come back to play this probably every few weeks and still enjoy it after 17 years. comfy game to play on a snowy day

I played this last year, had a blast. The game is much harder than it looks tho, but still as comfy as it gets.

The best horror is alternately distressing and comfy, because the contrast is what defines it. Many of these games try to lull you into a false sense of security with peaceful sections and sanctuaries, and overcoming the urge to just sink back into it is part of the point, especially the more psychological games. But I think back fondly on many of these parts just on their own.

Yume Nikki comes to mind. Even with all the unsettling imagery, the lack of threats or jump scares in most areas lets them remain as simultaneously cozy as they are scary.
