Is the Wii a good emulation machine yet or is it still unable to play games like Yoshi's Story for N64?

>> No.8377716

I've never played n64 games on it besides the ones from the wii shop wii ware games. Which you can still get btw.

But I played snes on it and used it for nintendont. It's pretty good for that purpose.

But why would you get a Wii for that?

N64 outside the Wiishop sucks on the Wii. Use your PC for emulation or get a N64 with Everdrive.

The virtual console games work great, the actual emulator for n64 is terrible. The wii is great for playing anything 4th gen and back at 240p, that's all it's good at

>> No.8377745

The wii has always been a good system for emulation. N64 emulation isn't so good but you've got all the virtual console titles available that run well, and Yoshi's Island was on virtual console. But it's great for emulating 3rd and 4th gen, I think PSX can be emulated although I don't think copy protection shit is bypassed yet. Then of course you can play GameCube and wii games natively on the system with just isos.

I personally use it the most for PC Engine, Gameboy, and Wonderswan, since these days I mostly just use flash carts on my real systems. The wii is nice to play for niche systems like the Wonderswan that I don't own. On a small CRT the gameboy emulation looks gorgeous.

>> No.8377751

It is a great emulation machine for anything pre 64, it can do 240p too. I love playing gb and gba with the mote

>>8377713
Yes for everything but 5th gen and onwards, PS1 emulation is fine but many titles have issues or are unplayable if you don't not play around with the settings on the emulator and Yabause doesn't work for shit on it. About N64 emulation, i have tried it on the Wii because i just use my original machine

Yabuse is literally a proof of concept. Not playable period. PlayStation is shit. 64 is so-so with many games having issues or not working. But yea, for old shit I guess it’s ok. Pro tip: use pi or better yet a computer. I don’t even turn on my wii, it’s garbage in my opinion

I just want emulators in 240p on a composite CRT. I’ve tried a handful of HDMI-composite converters and they all suck, same for vga-composite. I’d also really like to not spend a thousand dollars on some meme scaler.
Unironically about to switch to my R40 and just live with old ass emulators because at least that does native s-video out.

There was an anon explaining how to cheap, simply and lag free get RGB (for SCART or BNC) from a 15 dollar DP to VGA adapter that let you use all modes including 240p.

Wii emulation doesn't have access to the GPU. 32-bit PPC Linux is also dying which indirectly effects compiling newer emulators on Wii. SDL2 dropped PPC for instance.

yeah you can inject other roms into a vc file, some games work better than others

>sideloaded
Zoomers truly do misuse this word. But what I think is the answer to your question is yes, you can use the wad injector program on nearly any rom file so that the wii views it as a native program. Just be warned that Windows Defender will flag it as POTENTIALLY UNWANTED SOFTWARE. Ignore it, thats just microsoft trying to scare you away from copyright infringement.

You can buy VGA to SCART cables for 25€ and then find an ATI card with VGA out and install the CRT_EmuDriver.

>> No.8380298

>>8380230
No need for a ATi card, just get a DP to VGA adapter and use your modern GPU, you can add 15kHz modes with CRU.

It's great for anything pre-PS1/N64/Saturn home console wise, anything pre-DS/PSP handheld wise.

SNES, Megadrive, Mega CD, GBA etc all play beautifully with Snatcher CD in particular being a real highlight given you've then got easy lightgun support.

Some GBA games like Drill Dozer struggle, even on the latest emulators. Everything else I've thrown at it works fine. There's some sync issues with CD based games, but it is admittedly rare.

Plays Wii and GC ROMS flawlessly, dwingus

>> No.8381406

It was good in 2008 when all you had was a Wii to play older games on the TV. Nowadays there's thousands of ways of doing this some cheaper than a Wii.
If you have a pc and a hdmi wire cable to connect to the tv its far superior than a Wii.
plays GBA flawlessly and older consoles like snes nes and sega genesis and tg16. also has some arcade emulators like street fighter alpha 3 and KOF 2002.

So a 20€ adapter + 10€ cable and literally 4 clicks in Windows or Linux is too complex and costs more than a Wii with RGB cables? Lol.
