I didn't love any games as a kid that I don't still love today, I loved them because of their gameplay, depth and quality of craftsmanship. I did come to love games that I initially felt only lukewarm towards though, because my ability to appreciate things went up instead of down.

The only game I can think of is Bart vs the Space Mutants. I got to the last level as a kid, but I just cant play this game today past the first level, its too shitty.

RE4 and God Hand are that generation's best games. It seemed like an ordinary AAA at the time, but in hindsight, RE4 is a masterpiece. It also jumpstarted the whole over-the-shoulder third-petson thing which was annoying at the time but is equally not a problem 15 years later. Shitting on Mikami's magnum opus betrays bad taste.

despise is a strong word, i mean it's okay but i like the first game and gen 4/5 and well literally most any other jrpg more these days, it's just kinda bland ya know? same for the rb remakes. the monster designs went on a rocky road after this though, some solid some not rather than most being solid.

At the time it was great, as much as people shit on the ots trend now you have to consider the akward ad hoc lock on aiming systems from the 5th and early 6th gen it replaced. Coming back to re4 15 years later without any bonus wow factor for the control scheme it's still pretty good but becomes dull quickly. Long mind numbing sections of running forward and trivially melting crowds of ganados, I usually quite during the castle when the urge strikes me to pop it in.
