Xbox was the best. Seeing green Kirby freak out, the cozy evil ambient silence, the music player which was the first time I was ever able to store all my music digitally in one place, the memory management that didn't involve fucking around with tiny memory cards and felt limitless, the satisfying clicking gear sound of just scrolling down the menus. It was the best.

I remember staying on the original Xbox dashboard for a couple minutes and there was some kind of verbal dialog that sounded like it was coming from an old radio. Xbox also had a music visualizer like the PSOne and could rip CDs.
PS2 is the most iconic but more or less offers the same functionality (minimal CD player) as Dreamcast.
Dreamcast is happy and colorful and gets bonus points for using low poly models of the peripherals.
Gamecube is the most limited and basic, but it's very simplistic and has a good ambiance.

>> No.8377720

PS2 by far, It's so otherworldly and intense. I've always loved that atmospheric, synthesized ambient type of shit.

changing the VMU battery always seemed pointless to me if they're only necessary if you use the VMU as a stupid tamagachi portable thing. So I'd only be putting in batteries just to avoid the BEEEEEP, but the fucking thing still passively drains the batteries anyway and soon enough they'll be dead again. Now the BEEEEEEEEP is back and I need more watch batteries, fuck that.

One of these days I'll just crack the fucking things open and manually disconnect the internal speaker.

>PS1 sound
A reverberating sense of mystery, with the playstation logo shows up surrounded by a dark screen, inviting you to wonder just what it is that you're about to play and what secrets there will be to discover beyond the dark fog (which was prevalent in many games).
>PS2 sound
A distant, cold tune that gives a "face" and "voice" to the inner workings of the Emotion Engine. It quickly draws you in with the sound of rushing wind, and the echo it gives off throughout gives a sense that it's much larger in scale than you think. You can't help but take it seriously, especially after you see the dreaded red screen kicking you back out for the first time.
>PSP sound
Simple, upbeat and warm. Every game is a brief adventure. Peak 2000's portable technology in the palm of your hand, have fun and take it easy.
>Dreamcast sound
Feels like entering a great hall of marble. Each drop of water seeping in through the ceiling echoing out as if lands by your feet - "Here's a new game, borne out of someone's dream".
