I know it's a meme, but these phrases exist because of a reason.
>price firm
Any place on the internet that isn't a pure shop interface always gets flooded with the most annoying beggars. $140 item? WILL YOU TAKE $5?! WHY WON'T YOU TAKE $5?! STOP BEING SO GREEDY! Don't respond? They will keep messaging you every hour on the hour until you tell them to fuck off. Unless you specifically mention you aren't willing to negotiate on price, they will crawl out of the woodwork and start harassing you.
>I can sit on this
You'd be surprised how many people seem to think you NEED TO SELL NOW NOW NOW and are desperate to make a sale before you age another second. While listing fucking retrogames on the internet for spare cash. Reject their low-ball offer? WELL HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU THINK ARE INTERESTED IN BUYING THIS DUDE?! BETTER SELL TO ME WHILE YOU STILL HAVE A CUSTOMER! I don't know why these retards think this is the case, but it's disturbingly common.
>no tyre kickers
Yeah, this isn't a fucking store. I didn't pull my ass away from the TV to have someone look at the vehicle from the exact same angles the pictures were in the listing, ask for the exact same info in the listing, kick/hit various parts of the vehicle, put fingerprints over every piece of chrome and glass, only to say "Well, I'm not fully decided just yet, I'll keep in touch." If you wanna browse around, go to a fucking store.

I was selling everything five years ago, I was in no hurry at all. Prices have only gone up since then. If I followed your advice to SELL NOW, I would have liquidated my entire collection for about $30. Instead I told all of them to fuck off and sold them here on the old /bst/ threads at 5% below market rate. Selling on a market like craigslist just plain sucks for a seller. Not that ebay is much better.
>bubble isn't going to last forever
I remember when people said accurate emulation with no input lag for the platforms would drive prices down on real hardware. It didn't happen. I remember when people said flash carts and ODE's with 100% compatibility would drive down prices on real hardware. It didn't happen. Face it, prices aren't going back to the Funcoland days. The original market for these games hasn't lost any interest yet, and younger generations keep becoming interested and driving demand higher. I remember everyone here saying that people were losing interest in NES stuff finally, but all I see is Kirby's Adventure finally breaking above $20 for a loose cartridge, Contra headed back up to $40, Mega Man 2 back above $20, and Duck Tales finally going above $20. Anyone in a hurry to sell now is only hurting themselves.

I've sold some things that I wind up with dupes of, generally because I've replaced them with something in better condition. If you're cutting a stranger a good buddy deal, you're probably (1) making a sale that isn't worth your time, because you won't even make enough to fund the purchase of another price-inflated game, and (2) probably just cucking yourself because the buyer likely just sees you as a rube and will quickly resell it to convert the discount you gave them into cash.

Used game shops are the absolute worst. All the ones I've ever seen have worse selection and HIGHER PRICES than ebay. So if I'm not even getting a good deal, why the FUCK should I even bother getting off my ass and traveling to your shitty store and rummaging through bins of trash just to pay more than the BIN ebay listing I could've bought in 5 seconds from my computer?
Same shit goes with the nigger degens who sell used games on craigslist. No I'm not gonna do a meet and greet with some random crackhead downtown to pay 50 bucks for a copy of mario

>> No.8369762

>>8369751
Used game stores really seem like a strange thing nowadays. I get they have to cover their overhead, but from a buyer's angle, why pay more than the going ebay rate? With phone cameras being commonplace, you can typically get a decent shot or two of what you're buying to assess condition, and even then the copy your local store is selling isn't necessarily going to be in the best of shape to begin with. Used game stores once thrived on people unloading their used junk in bulk, and now with the internet combined with wider spread knowledge of toys-as-collectibles, I'd assume that such stocking methods are becoming less and less reliable. Honestly I'm not sure how the modern used game store gets their stock, I'm guessing just biting the bullet and scraping a few bucks off local yard sales, trade-ins, or even parting out ebay lots (combined with the rare junk unload).

The prices of all these things obviously reflect the nostalgia of the people reaching mid-life and drop when they start growing too old to care or dying off. It's like a wave with the older stuff like Atari 2600 and other 8 bit lined up to die off first even as the newest "retro" of that time are having their heyday.

Once the nostalgia era is in the age of heavily digital downloaded and updated games it's pretty much over and will only be emulation or price gouging from licence holders trying to sell you emulator rom downloads for stupid prices, one at a time.

You think that's funny but I've had people buy literally >70kHz 15"-17" trash with dim and burned out tubes from me, thinking they got a nice steal or that they ripped me off (even though they paid over a hundred) saying "You know, these things are pretty rare and great for old games ;)"

I repeat, I shit you not, this actually has happened several times and I've had this said to my face with them having a smug smile

Just clean them up properly and make sure they technically work, then post pictures of them working with some retro game running, make sure you can see the thick scanlines and put "RETRO VINTAGE GAMING RARE CRT SONY PVM-LIKE HIGH END" etc into the title. The higher price actually helps to make people believe it's high end.
Good luck, anon.

Oh and always sell one by one, don't list several at once. You want to create demand, if there's several you ruin your pricing and people might wait with buying.

topkek, don't forget to include the OBLIGATORY image of sonic 2 on the screen. You gotta have an image of sonic 2 if you're selling old junk CRTs for >1000

Dunno about that, I usually use Nintendo specific games, since most braindead farts seem to be Nintendo fanboys, even the zoomers.

Eh I thought a Mario game would work better. Nintendo collectors are the ones with more money than sense.

Whenever I see pvmeme scalpers on ebay and elsewhere, trying to hawk their overpriced wares, going back over half a decade, it's *always* a picture of sonic 2. Always.

A friend of mine tried this using a picture of Sonic 3. He was found dead the next day. Please, don't mess with what you don't know. Just use a picture of Sonic 2, put a smile on your face and pretend nothing's happened.

>tfw any trip to a used game store or flea market in the last year resulted in no purchases because I could instantly find a better condition/better priced item online with my phone
>latest trip to a game store involved the embarrassment of balking at the ridiculous price of a Wavebird without a receiver AFTER the store employee jumped to dig the filthy thing out of storage and wipe it down for me without telling me the price first
I committed the retail consumer cardinal sin of blurting out to the poor wagie "sorry, I know I can get one way cheaper online" and felt like a douchebag, though there was no way in hell I'd ever pay fifty bucks for a battered, incomplete controller that was assuredly full of dead skin sludge and dog hair. There's no joy to be had in used game stores any more.

You can pick up some games for the same as ebay price still, but hardly anything under.

Sadly I'd imagine that a lot of used game store stock nowadays is coming from random ebay lots of games so mediocre and/or in such crummy shape that not even the ebay seller thought it was worth parting out. If not that, from local yardsales. I get running a store is hard, but you'd hope that store you went to would at least clean up their stock so they're adding some value instead of selling some filthy crap unceremoniously stuffed in a box as soon as they got it in the mail/bought it at a yard sale/had some crackhead sell it to them for $5.

Yeah, used stores have been dead to me for the better part of a decade now. Flea markets used to still have some decent deals here and there, but even that went out the window when the meme virus bullshit started and everyone became a wannabe speculator on everything. Even in 2019 I was able to go to my local flea market every so often on sundays and find decent shit like a genesis, a backwards compatible PS3, a wii, etc for next to nothing. Even those days are long gone

You're right about that. Most of those stores are just reselling lots they win on ebay. I found myself bidding against some retro store in France and they bid the lot up to what everything was worth individually.
