Honestly most WATA sealed games are likely legit, but that really isn't the point. The "collectors" care more about the game name and rating number on the WATA slab label. They're effectively trading card currency, with WATA as the one minting them. I remember some guy complaining that he thought the grading seemed too high relative to the condition of the game in the slab, but was seemingly satisfied when other "collectors" convinced him that it was indeed within WATA's grading standards - they cared more that the number on the tag fell within WATA's guidelines than bothering to question if WATA's grading guidelines were fair or accurate or even really meaningful. Internal consistency is all they care about, because they don't really care about preserving top-end condition examples of games, just maintaining or increasing dollar value.

>> No.8362258

"population reports" are reports of number of instances of games at particular grades that have passed through WATA. Basically a form of rarity scale. An honest population report could theoretically tank or inflate values of certain graded games, though of course there can be other reasons to explain more or less graded copies of one game or another (like some really common sealed games might have a seemingly low population because nobody cares to spend the money to grade them).

>grade-worthy

Are you just pretending to be retarded? I don't really care for the practice myself but in theory "grading" doesn't mean "must be in good quality", it means rating the product to determine its quality. Which means anything can be graded. You could ask pic related to be graded if you wanted, you'd just get a 2/10, but at least you'd know you could sell it as a 2/10 and not a 1/10

now of course in practice nobody does that, but grading something of "just good" quality fits with the whole point of the system

And yes I still can question the whole point behind "grading", question the integrity and relevancy of the graders, etc but that's not what this post is about. The point is, if you want to criticize grading, at least try to grasp the basics of the system instead of thinking that by definition items have to be "worthy" to be graded

Selling games that he's hoarded is how Pat makes most of his money. He isn't that popular on YouTube, certainly not enough for him to live on in with the way YouTube handles ad money now. He relies on people sending him free shit to the point where he will actively sabotage any projects (like the Coleco Chameleon) that would make his piles of games his garage worth any less money.

The problem you're having is that you're one of these weird speedrun troon faggots who knew who Jobst was before the WATA video, and you have some previous schizo beef with something he did or said (as ALL of you speedrun troons seem to have some issue with at least one other of your ilk), so now everything he does is immediately bullshit to you. Where does he admit to intentionally exaggerating in that particular video, and what would it change even if he were? What exactly did he get wrong?

It's because he used to be a "games journalist" and once you're in that circle, you're basically set
He also has a very rich benefactor supporting his non-profit.

WATA just slabs it and says "this is probably a prototype." Only a newbie would pay for such a service, because confirming with 100% certainty is borderline impossible, and the 95% certainty is something that most collectors who give a shit can do on their own.

Pat cries so much about the price of games these days that I had to stop listening to his podcast.

>>8366201
If Pat was making all his money off hoarded games as you claim, he wouldn't spend most of every episode of his podcast for the last two years telling you not to buy in what is obviously an inflated market. This narrative doesn't hold up.

Pat doesn't tell people not to buy games, he tells them not to buy fakes or repros. You will never find him discouraging anyone from buying secondhand originals (which he is happy to resell.) His """guide books""" are just glorified price guides that help to keep prices inflated, because if it's in a book then it must be true.

>> No.8369353

Listen to literally every clip on his channel about the current state of the market. He rants endlessly about how expensive this are and how people shouldn't spend all this money on slabbed games. You are literally making shit up.

>> No.8369362

>>8369353
"The market" does not equal slabbed games. Pat doesn't sell slabbed games and I never said he did. He's a reseller who is upset that all these outsiders are moving into the ecosystem where he makes his money and manipulating the market, of course he doesn't want them doing this. Listen to him whine in the Karl Kobst video about how the graded game market is "so unethical and wrong" when really he's just mad that these highly organized and well-funded people are muscling in on his game selling turf.

>> No.8369924

Honestly, the way he reacted to THQ doing a Q&A at a certain site and the fact that he's friend with Zoe Quinn is enough to make him a low-t scum anyway. No need to spread rumors about him being a wifebeater if there aren't any receipts.

>> No.8370915

>>8369362
can you post any evidence that he is a "reseller"?
if he doesn't sell slabbed, then why does he care so much about WATA ripping people off? your narrative is BS, you just get worked up into a seethe over this guy because you don't like the way his face looks or something.

>> No.8370920

I must be that "dense" because I just googled "8 bit guy ebay store" on DDG and Google, and I didn't get shit.

>> No.8370938

Graded bullshit isn't affecting the price of loose games. This is a scam, but it being outed will not bring prices down.
