This is a bit wrong. You enter Worlds A-D regardless after 8-4. Warping only means you don't pass through World 9 in-between.

And on the FDS, you had to beat the game eight times to unlock Worlds A-D, so All-Stars took a lot of the work out of that.

We've been over this anon. It's a mix of the Players(readers), Pro's(game counselors at NP), and Dealers(what retail says is selling). Pro's really liked Zelda 2 and it stayed high on their list for a long time. Also, there was some re-releases of older titles around this time. Both Zelda and Zelda 2 got re-releases along with Metroid, and probably a few other games. I didn't get my copy of Zelda 2 until the re-release of it.

Time for announced but unreleased games.

Mario & Wario - Nintendo(was developed by Game Freak) (SNES)
A Super Famicom action-puzzle game with Mario and Wario. No fan-translation exists, but I'm not sure if one is even needed.

Thomas The Tank Engine - THQ (NES)
THQ published two different Thomas The Tank Engine videogames around this time period. This one here sounds very similar to the one that was released on the SNES. Which makes sense, because the finished prototype found in 2014 was by the same dev as the SNES version, Software Creations. https://wowroms.com/en/roms/nintendo-entertainment-system/thomas-the-tank-engine-and-friends-usa-proto/23915.html

Asterix - Electro Brain(I think it was the Bit Managers?) (NES)
Another PAL exclusive title that was gonna make the transfer over and didn't. In the end, the US never got any of the three Asterix games published by Infogrames.

Asterix AKA Asterix and Obelix- Electro Brain(Again, probably the Bit Managers) (Game Boy)
Another EU exclusive. Good thing all the Game Boy line was 100% the same across regions and had no region lock.

And that's all for these two issues. Most of the stuff mentioned was already mentioned in a previous issue and covered already, these were the only new ones I saw.

I know, it just struck me as really weird back then and still does now. Itoh thought having Fox attracted to Fara because she looks just like his mother was perfectly fine, and the family friendly censors at NP said "Yep, looks good to us!". I don't even recall anyone bringing it up when the comic or Fara are mentioned, by any community. For fucks sake, not even Peppy says it's weird for Fox to be trying to bone someone who looks just like his mom. He just says "I never realized how much you look like Fox's mother!" Because there's nothing weird about that, right? The comic has some weird stuff to it, but this part will always make me wonder how much of a Oedipus complex Itoh had.

This wasn't even the only place it was advertised. One of my most clear memories as a kid was waiting with Grandpa in a sitting area at K-mart waiting for Grandma to do finish shopping. There was some kind of store pamphlet previewing upcoming games that he read to me while we waited. I remember Mario and Wario's preview blurb ended with something like "but this time, Mario has a bucket on his head!". Then Grandpa said "wow, that sounds like a really great game. We'll have to get that one", so the game's always stuck in my head because of it. Even though it never actually came out.

And we've been saying for years that Zelda 2 was well loved back when the NES was alive. It being hated was the verdict of all the zoomers who grew up with OoT who didn't like it since it was challenging. Same thing with TMNT. All the post-2000 sources say it's garbage, most people who played it back then liked it. Games didn't sell millions of copies on hype alone back then, most people rented first. You only bought the game if you liked it enough after the rental. Zelda 2 and TMNT both sold 4 million copies, putting them both in the top 11 of most sold NES games. You don't sell 4 million copies in the late 80's and be hated. The only NES titles to sell more copies than Zelda 2 was the 3 SMB games, Zelda 1, Tetris, Duck Hunt, and Dr. Mario. Zelda 2 was one of the few "NES Classics" to get a reprinting late in the NES's lifespan, because it was that popular.

I doubt you're familiar with the source material as you think you are, since...
>Where was Krang?
He didn't have a body for most of S1, and spent most of S2 not even present in the show, sitting in Dimension X. Are you blaming them for not knowing he would be a more prominent character later on? Or did you not start watching the show until the later seasons when he was in every episode alongside Shredder?
>Why did we fight moths and a guy with a chainsaw?
Low level mooks that aren't just differently colored ninjas to make a videogame have more variety. Why complain about different enemies in a videogame? This isn't even a flaw, this is a whiny nitpick.

>April and Splinter as back-up role
>story about taking down the Foot Clan while they capture Splinter and wreak havoc (attempting to blow up the dam)
>takes place in big cities streets/buildings and sewers before moving on to more urban locations and finally inside the technodrome, after finding it underground
>enemies include Foot Soldiers, Mousers, drones created by the Foot; vehicules driven by Foot soldiers on the overworld maps
>bosses: Bebop, Rocksteady, Mecha Turtle, Giant Mouser, Technodrome, Shredder
>drive the Turtle van
>cutscenes: see the turtles hidehouse in the sewers and Shredder taunting the turtles, use the Turtle Blimp
For the record cutscenes between levels in 1989 were still a rare thing, they went out of their way to do that

I'm probably forgetting a lot of things. Sure they came up with some things to make up the blanks (and in some cases it feels like they could have happened in the show like the mutated frog and armadillo enemies; or some crazy dude using a chainsaw, in fact maybe these things happened and I'm just not aware) for a game made in 1989 it respects the source material a lot more than one would expect. I mean, they could just as easily made a quick cash grab like this
>play as a single turtle
>entire story is about all 3 other turtles being captured
that's it, that's the entire story of the game. Not an evolving story with twists, a different goal every world to make it feel like each world is a different episode/issue, obviously no cutscenes either because that shit really isn't that necessary to make a game
>gameplay is about shooting with a gun or jumping on enemies head
Just so they could lazily copy the Mega Man/Contra or Mario formulas

I'm not exactly making that shit up, it's a classic with bad licenced games. in Astérix on NES/GB/SNES the entire game is about Obélix being captured. Obélix, the one being in that universe that's basically an invicible god that wreaks havoc even when he doesn't want to... captured. The reasoning behind this being, one, it gives them an excuse not to have that character playable, and two, it gives them an excuse for the story, and that game came out 4 years later.
