Hello, /vr/. I am NOT the organizer for /v/'s latest Super Mario World collab hack. Recently, we got a new baserom with the Cancer Lord fight finished and various bugfixes and level adjustments. The organizer also plans to release a new version with the Sneedzoid fight ready for us to test. Because progress is slow, we can use this thread to discuss any issues with the current build, and to discuss the few works-in-progress we have to finish up (like the Matador fight for CONCEPTION and the cover art).

Yes, it's still in development. People found a shitload of major issues with the first overworld build, so it's good that got fixed. Now we're waiting for Sneedzoid and the last remaining music ports. Also, your level got dropped for not being fun.

Sorry for the complete lack of updates. Along with moving I've been fighting a cold which hasn't done me any favors. I wanted to post a near-finished Sneedzoid on Thanksgiving, but I'm worried that it would be disappointing to drop only a boss with nothing else nearly a month after the last baserom so I'm trying to finish at least a few other things as well. For now, my current plan for the next baserom is getting the cutscenes/port and the Snacks boss done, along with implementing some fixes and adding the gimmick for Bowser's Castle that's long overdue.

Kaizo just exploded in popularity over the last 4 years or so, which means there are more kaizo releases since more people are interested in the genre. This isn't a decision of the website as much as a representation of current tastes in romhacks. The current standards of kaizo and hacking in general have gotten very high, check out the last two KLDCs. I think it's pretty much the best its ever been, despite the large amount of low effort kaizo that gets released every week.

The one level I made thats below S tier was the one I wish I had completed but I procrastinated like a massive faggot. If I did finish it I think it would be S or S+. I'm glad one anon decided to finish it for me, since I was really ambitious with my level idea but then my level files got corrupted and I had lost a lot of progress. I don't know how to revive it if /v/4 comes out because people will think they are playing more of the same, but my initial plan was to add an intro so I could use that idea again.

Personally I like how the levels that were made at the moment looked simple and vanilla, so the hack has both vanilla and custom levels which results in a lot of variety.

I found an important bug on the yellow switch palace.

Remember the wallrunning-fixing dolphins? Turns out they get despawned by the sprite eating tile on the middle of the stage (they're the weird tiles above mario), which I think is what is causing the wallrun glitches, which will make the stage unbeatable unless you die and try again (other glitches, like wallrunning on empty blocks, will also happen again). Even though the dolphins are almost always gone, the wallrun will not always glitch, which I think is up to luck.

I recommend either taking out the sprite eating net or adding some extra blocks so mario can wallrun on solid wall and not on the on-off line of blocks. It only happens on left walls by the way, which I think must be why it only happens on this specific section.

word. in fact, I found major glitches in Hellmari Tower recently. in certain parts, if you shift the camera with L+R, you'll fall through the floor and lose a life. this happens in the first sublevel, mostly not on the last (not sure about the others), but it also happens by the boss door and in the arena. even worse, when fighting haimari, it's possible to walk/run into the wall, which takes a life. I will fix the health bar issues, as well as the gravity still running while the screen is scrolling. However, I cannot fix the boss door being blocked off by garbage tiles, OP will have to remove those himself. They were simply custom blocks that are now obsoleted in the final build by code that the boss itself runs, so they are safe to simply delete.

I agree that my boss fight was executed well. however, there's still room to improve. it seems better spritework has been submitted (pic related), but there's still the issue of spawning on top of tiles, and the jarring increase in difficulty. but as I said, I'm willing to be patient while higher priorities are dealt with.

I'd say the hardest part is trying to carry the p-switch back to the start, because you don't have enough time if you want to press it immediately. Both paths lead to the same boss, so you only really have to go for it if you want to collect all 5 dragon coins. It autosaves if you collect one, so you don't have to collect the same one again if you die.
