Not him, but I've been watching lately people on twitch or YouTube playing OoT/Zelda for the first time ever to see their experience, and a lot do run out of arrows and go buy one, buy the Hylian Shield instead of going beneath the grave, buy blue potions... It's fascinating, really.

>> No.8358664

To be fair, you'll most likely be led in the shop that has the shield before going anywhere else, and by then you have to money to buy it, quicker than going to loot it or get the quest coupon if you don't know about them.
I have bought it myself many times. Other than that I never bought anything but deku nuts (the flash bang ones, not the slinger ammo)
Shops should really sell unique items imo, like heart containers. They did something like this in windwaker I think.

you don't really need a guide once you realize that completed areas have a gold skulltula marked on the map screen. For the most part there's just guesswork between whether they appear as adult link or kid link. Only a couple skulltulas would require a guide.

Yeah. Also knowing about how to use the ocarina to turn it into night and then scrounge around looking to hear the scratch sound.

Even with that being said, I think on a subsequent play-through trying to get them all myself I could only get ~97. A few, like you said, are really fucking well hidden!

Anyone else remember how much shittier the poe souls in TP were by comparison? You didn't get anything else except for worthless rupees, and because TP didn't have a way to change the time to night you'd go to a place with a poe spawn, it would turn morning, and then all you could do was just go jerk off for 10 minutes waiting for night to fall again so it would respawn.

And that's a terrible way to design games, it's unsatisfying either way. Either you force yourself to leave the content unfinished or you waste time for a bad/non-existent pay-off.
At the very least in most Metroid games the act of collecting missiles/etc is enjoyable even if there's no big pay-off for 100%. That's contrasted with 3D Zeldas where the collectibles are mostly trivial to collect and have very little variety, there's just a lot of them.

Even as a kid I never put anything but fairies in my bottles, and cutting a few patches of grass usually provides all the ammo you'll need. The only real use I could see for rupees is if you somehow lose a tunic to a Like Like and need to buy it back, but that's a pretty rare edge case scenario. The final dungeon is the only place I could see it realistically happening since there's a Like Like that can spit you out into a pit

That's because Korok seeds are designed to be missable. You barely even need 1/4 of them for adequate inventory space and you stop being rewarded for them after getting about 1/3.

Also aside from the fact that people are completionist autismos these days, I don't even really get why people single out korok seeds so much, It's not like the rewards for completing every shrine or filling out the pokedex are much better. At least the golden turd is funny.

I am their audience. It is amusing because generally I don't care for Nintendo games so I don't play too many of them. When I do I just do the minimum to get to the credits. For Nintendo fans they take a big shit in their mouth for being devoted to their games. At least some other developers give a bit more if you go above and beyond or they don't put in as much busy work.

This—if the developers want to oversaturate a collectible so that you have a high chance of finding enough of them to unlock all of the intended upgrades/storage space/super missiles/whatever, they’re going to put in more than a reasonable quantity to 100% through.
That being said, someone put in the time and effort to think about where to put a total of 900 koroks, and sometimes those kinds of decisions reveal things about the mindset of the developers, or smaller stories and cultural references which don’t get any text/voiceover storytime in the game outside of that one little moment most players gloss over or miss entirely—so depending on what you’re trying to get out of a game, sometimes going for a 100% completion “just to see what’s there” is reward enough for itself. I hunted enough of the koroks down to get all of the inventory slots without a guide, then went back through for the remaining 45% of them with a guide to see what I missed, knowing that the reward (if any) wouldn’t be worth it, but I had a good time trying to figure out what some of them were based on.
Here’s an example of what I’m referring to:
