The typical JRPG as we know only exists because of Nintendo systems.

Where was always somthing about seeing this box at a video store that gave me a weird vibe..not sure why

I think I rented it once and it felt kinda creepy as well and never really got anywhere with it lol..

Actually a bunch of cool features that would later get added as innovations to the genre
>streamlined overworld
>dying restores to a saved state at the start of battle rather than game over'ing
>weapons can be used as tools in the overhead map
>no money
>magic as consumable items
>enemies can be seen on overhead map, no random encounter
>enemies stay dead upon defeat, no respawning until you leave the area
>rotating computer controlled ally system

You're supposed to hate this game because Reddit and YouTube said so. Posts like yours are haram and disrespectful.

And considering there was a shit load of many western rpgs like Might and Magic, Ultima, Wizardy, Baldurs gate, many tsr clones and the like. I do find that rumor hard to believe.

i think it might have been nintendo thinks final fantasy isn't selling well in the west because they don't buy it like japan does, and for their nintendo console, not for a computer. console market was very different than pc with their w crpgs so in that respect i can see it to be easy to believe. but i think i read it on fucking wikipedia anyway. it's probably still there lol.

lol here it fuckin is. take that as true or not, that's where i read it.

Although designed by one of Square's development teams in Japan, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was specifically geared for the U.S. market. At the time, console role-playing games were not a major genre in North America; Square thus attempted to broaden the genre's appeal through Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.[3] Square had already released several Final Fantasy spinoffs in North America, including the first three titles in the SaGa series as Final Fantasy Legend, and the first Mana series game as Final Fantasy Adventure, and wished to further break into the popular American consciousness.[10] Square's executives cited the alleged difficulty of role-playing games as the reason Americans shied away from them, and eased the difficulty level by tweaking various aspects of the main series' gameplay.[3] The American release of Final Fantasy IV was altered to make the game simpler, for example. Mystic Quest was to take this one step further, and the Japanese developers worked with the American offices to make sure the game was accessible to children.[10]

I’ve really come around on this game. Sure it’s easy and basic, but it’s also funny, and had a lot of cool shit like having separate sprites for when the monsters were at low health. And the soundtrack rules.

Sword of Vermilion is an actual RPG and leaps and bounds better than MQ.

Have you even played either game?

I enjoyed Mystic Quest. Since they streamlined a load of things, they just went off and added a load of additional things that you wouldn't typically see in a jrpg.
Probably one of the few games besides Lufia 2 that did the tool items in a primarily jrpg game. And a bunch of things such as what >>8351545 pointed out.
