Honestly, G3. As much nostalgia as I have for 1 and 2, I think Hoenn was a great region and I love my nigga chimecho

You and me are opposites
I feel that G3 was where everything went wrong with the series
Granted, it was pretty and had some really nice parts, I liked secret bases, especially when I made my base in the always raining zone
I still feel it was a step backwards though

It's understandable. That is the series first "reboot". I didn't like it at first either, played through it reluctantly. It's grown on me the most though over the years.

>What's your favorite, G1, G2, or G3?
You could take this question so many ways
>What's your favorite batch of Pokemon?
>What's your favorite era in terms of aesthetics/vibe?
>What's your favorite game?

>> No.8341018

Also my favorite was G2
A direct improvement from everything about G1
All sorts of new features like day/night, room decoration, mystery gift, shinies, moving legendaries, eggs & breeding, calling/pokegear, NEW POKEMON, etc.
It was quite a jam

Also going back to the old region was a trip, even if it was rather sparse

>> No.8341019

My favourite is gen 1 while using gen 2 to trade myself mons I'm not supposed to have early on or teach them moves they're not supposed to be able to learn period

>> No.8341023

>>8341015
Also nobody ever says "G1", "G2", this isn't Transformers. Pokefags always say "gen 1" or "Generation 1" etc
Anyway to actually answer the question
2 > 1 > 3

>Gen 1
>all actual hardware
>abusing stuff from Gen 2 like teaching your Gen 1 Gengar Ice Punch, trading, using Eggs to get level 5 mons in Gen 1, etc.
>play on Stadium 1 specifically for the soulful GB Tower borders and since it runs slightly faster than on Stadium 2 when using 3x speed
>use Staidum speed ups for most of the game
>abuse Old Man glitch whenever you feel like it, abuse Ditto glitch whenever you feel like it

The X3 speed would certainly have helped me to raise all those mons I raised to lvl 100 if only to speed up the credits roll

I used to beat the E4 over and over for that. Which meant that every time I had to wait for the credits roll (even with the credits taken into account, it's still the fastest way to get exp in the game, I checked). I used to know exactly how long the credits last so I'd just lay the game boy somewhere and come back after a while

>> No.8341043

>>8341029
Note that you can't use the speed ups until you beat some of the regular game, so just do rentals for that. Rip off whatever Werster uses in R1 and follow all his strats and you're gucci.

Yeah, back when Pokemon was just (a very popular and heavily marketed) game, and not yet a soul-stripped multimedia powerhouse where everything has to carefully follow models and rules and marketing guidelines.

>>8341029
yeah, Gen 1 and 2 on the N64 is the true Pokémon experience, no question. It's a shame that it's so hard to capture that same experience with Gen 3, getting the full GameCube set up would be expensive and the games just don't compare to the stadium series.

I like all 3 for different reasons but if I had to pick an absolute favorite it would be gen2. I love he Japanese vibes and the lore in that one, and Johto is very interesting.

>It's a shame that it's so hard to capture that same experience with Gen 3, getting the full GameCube set up would be expensive and the games just don't compare to the stadium series.
It is impossible to capture that experience with Gen 3 because there is no equivalent. The Genius Sonority games may have battle modes and Free Battle for Gen 3 players but it isn't like in Stadium. The extremely rare Pokemon Box replaces Oak's Lab which isn't great. As for playing on the TV, you'd need to have a Game Boy Player and the disc and even then you don't get the speed up. No minigames anywhere either. Directly comparing the GBC to the GBA in this way isn't kind to GBA's side. By the time of Gen 4 they were pretty much able to just go without side games entirely which is fair I guess. Stadium 1 and 2 feel like they really compliment playing through Gen 1 and 2 in a way no other side games have done, they're interconnected experiences if you want them to be and it all comes together as a whole quite nicely.
Also worth noting that Game Freak was using Stadium for official tournaments and stuff as a forced rule fix for competitive etc., showing some credence to the theory that they considered the Stadium games the same way I do, intertwined experiences with the regular Game Boy games.

G1: unique and full of soul
G2: a refinement, new pokemon kinda sucked
G3: great new pokemon and lovely graphics

I’d have to say G2 because I was at just the right age for it to burn itself into my soul. But Gen 3 is great and I don’t understand all the hate it gets. Also (not retro) Gen 4 did good by adding more evolution to the gen 1 and 2 pokemon (retro)

hard break from all previous gens, was missing plenty of features from gen 2 such as time/date and kind of felt like a sidestep or reboot more than a proper sequel. also didnt have you returning to johto at the end so to a lot of kids the postgame was disappointing
