Why do people shit on this game so much? They solved all the problems previous games had like respawning enemies and birds that come out of nowhere and make you fall to a hole.
Slashing enemies, jumping around and holding on the platforms is very satisfying in this game. Graphics are also improved. What's not to like?

This game is shit.

I love III. Recently played the japanese version and I was bored as hell though. The NA changes, especially the changed enemy layouts, make for a way more exciting game on par with the other two instead of it being a boring cakewalk. Its a shame there's too many shitters out there who are so easily filtered by a smidge of challenge.

It's not that it's bad, but it's not as good as 1 or 2, so it's the one that is going to catch shit. The primary ones are double damage and floatier jumps. My personal gripes with it are with the inconsistencies and plot holes in the story. To name a few:

>Why does it take an additional two stages beyond the "defenses around Castle Rock" for Ryu to finally arrive at Castle Rock?
>Why did Foster order Ryu's doppelganger to keep Ryu alive, and not give the same order to every other enemy in the game?
>If getting Ryu alive was part of Foster's plan, why did the doppelganger not capture him after Ryu lost the duel with him?
>Why are the mountains coming out of the sky in stage 4-1?
>Why does Foster order Ryu's death only when they are face to face? Didn't he want him alive?
>Foster plans to "extract the secret of Dragon Clan" [sic] from Ryu, what the fuck does this even mean, and why is it never mentioned again?
>How was it possible for Irene to keep her survival a secret from Ryu when he was clever enough to find the lab she was investigating, but not able to find out she had been working with the military since then? How was Foster not alerted to her prescence until she confronts him?
>Why does Ryu conveniently have the power to enter a portal that tore Foster to shreds?
>Why does Clancy use a subspace portal to escape if his destination is the same place?
>If the ruins of the Demon Temple were an extra-dimensional warship, why didn't Jaquio know about it?
>When Clancy's mostly human form is destroyed by Ryu, he turns into a giant red serpent. Ryu says "So that's your real form." So was Clancy always a demon serpent, even before he was mutated by the life energy?
>Castle Rock is presumably built on and around the ruins of the Demon Temple from the first game. The Ancient Ship of Doom is presumably what the Demon Temple really was. If this is true, why do we see both the ship AND Castle Rock Fortress blow up separately during the ending?

NG2 and 3 feel floaty and wrong.
Despite the better graphics, they just aren't nearly as fun.

It's the most fair of the trilogy and most eye candy also. Highly recommended for beginners to start from 3 to 1.

>> No.8337036

Because 1 and 2 didn't have vertically scrolling stages. That's probably the same reason Ryu's jumps are floatier.

Too many instances where they decided to have several enemies suddenly spawn all around you. One second the screen is clear and next thing you know you're surrounded. In other words, cheap ambushes as substitute for good strategic and challenging enemy placement.

Not only NG3 is my favourite in the series, but I also think the best way to play the first game is the TG-16 version

It's really not. Sure, some of the reimagined graphics are neat, but the collision detection is fucked, walljumping clunkier and slower, the parallax backgrounds make epileptics seize, and the replaced music, while not bad, isn't as good as the NES original.

For all of that, it's still not a bad way to play NG1. It's definitely better than the DOS version of NG2 or the Atari Lynx port of NG3.

TG-16 removed alot of the gotcha moments in NG1 with the birds but it fucked up ranged enemy AI to fire the second they appear on screen instead of having a slight delay making it even more bullshit than the original. They also removed slashjump and didnt fix the boss fight glitch that sends you back to the start even if you had extra lives, what the fuck

I'm not sure that's a glitch considering it's the same thing in stage 5. Was there ever any evidence that it was unintended?

>> No.8341534

>>8341339

This got me curious so I had a look. RAM and ROM map of the game are pretty well documented. To me it looks like it's intentional, throughout the entire game, if you lose a life during a stage you respawn in the current room, but if you lose a life during a boss you go further back to the start of the stage, this isn't unique to stage 6.

What is misleading is that stage numbers given to the player on the HUD do not correspond to stage numbers internally, for instance stage 2-2 on the HUD is actually stage 3 internally, which is why if you lose a life against the boss you go back to 2-2 and not 2-1.
Now, from what I'm seeing, the further you progress through the game, the farther back the game sends you if you lose a life against a boss, as noted above with stage 5 (HUD stage 5). It looks like it's just the logic in place

Furthermore, considering how the stage loading system works, I doubt it's a glitch somewhere because it would mean having the same glitch in several places

tl;dr the devs were just assholes

Best NES NG. Best movement and the sword power up is infinitely better than the clone gimmick in NG2. Speaking of gimmicks, the stage gimmicks are better executed and less prevalent in NG3 rather than NG2, which in my opinion is a huge downside in that game. In NG3 they are more tolerable (lava and ice stages) and the worst it gets is probably the spikes in the last stage, and that's in part because the timer runs out fast as fuck because the whole level is a bit long (and with whole level I mean of course from the start outside of the ship).

Also the US version is inferior not because the lack of continues or increased damage, but because it shuffles power ups in some stages for no reason and that fucks up the pace. Some stages don't have the sword power up until almost the very end. I guess it was another case of "we need to punish rentals" from that age just like Konami did with CV3.
