>tedious Astro Boy proto with game breaking bugs that let you win effortlessly and useless moves that do zero damage
>weird license years after everyone stopped caring about it
>PAL release followed by slightly modified and bug fixed US release… 3 years later

Actual unironic Trashure, what were they thinking!?

how the fuck did this even get made? Why would a jap company work on an american IP that had not even been on the air for years? Was there some kind of short revival of it in the 2000s? I remember there was also a puzzle game tied to it for the GBA as well.

WB kind of whores out their licenses out to whoever to be honest. Tiny Toons did still see sporadic reruns in various places into the mid 00s in America at least
I think there was an Animaniacs game for GBA too
GBA had a lot of weird shovelware

This came out in 2005, can't forget this overpriced piece of cubeshit. Goes for $120 too. Look at the cover art full of copy/pasted elements. Look at how hideous it is.

>Astro Boy proto
And much like Astro Boy, you have to play on Hard for it to not be completely mindless. It still isn't great then, but it's better than it gets credit for (they've certainly made worse).

Pic related on the other hand is legit and yet not even their diehard fans talk about it. I kind of wish they didn't ditch the lane switching, but it otherwise improves on the original in every meaningful way.

I think that's being way too extreme, OF isn't exactly difficult but nor is it mindless.

On Hard? Yeah, it's got a very respectable difficulty; crowd control and knowing enemy placements are essential. I'd definitely say a 1cc of even just the first loop is a decent challenge.

On Normal and below? Nah, that shit's free. You quickly outpace everything statwise even if you don't find any of the hidden characters, and your supers are easily spammable with how quickly the meter charges.

I remember seeing this at a local game store years ago. I never thought about buying it, guess I should have.

Speaking of GBA Treasure games, I refuse to believe that this one here was actually released in a finished state.
Tons of bosses have blind spots, the transitions between areas are kinda messy and incoherent, the gimmick stages are poorly designed (the Afterburner one can be won by simply holding down the fire button and one direction), Bravoo Man, one of the most memorable bosses in the original, doesn't even have ANY attacks and Golden Silver doesn't move a finger and lets the gems fight instead.
It feels like once they were done with the new (awesome looking, pixelation aside) Seven Force they called it a day.

Seeing how they were really pushing score attack/speed killing as the primary mode of play, the blind spots on bosses are probably deliberate.

I do agree that this was likely a plan B after realizing they couldn't properly finish the game for whatever reason, and that it's baffling how hard it is to die on most of the bosses and gimmick stages. Easily their worst GBA game.

Most disappointing game in history after growing up on the original and clearly unfinished… which is why seven force is just as good or better than the original version, yet some stages are completely devoid of enemies/obstacles (destroy them all), some bosses don’t even have any attacks (pink, orange) that did have attacks in preview footage, some stages (altered beast parody) not showing up in the final, golden silver being completely stationary despite having a full set of unused melee sprites… the list goes on

I liked it. It was a game alongside the Metroid and Castlevania titles which convinced me to get the Gameboy Player. Since I liked the other games from the developer, and it was a license which had a lot of good games, it was worth giving a chance. However my game is called "Scary Dreams" instead.
