I only played the first 2 back in the day on my buddies Amiga but they were great. I don't care for the visuals of the HD remakes but I don't mind the added voice over. Modding them to add the voice over into the original games for use in ScummVM is now my preferred way to play them.

On the contrary, the entire library is very consistent throughout in terms of tone except later stuff like The Dig . Problem is that if the general goofy and snarky comedic style doesn't do it for you then you're basically guaranteed to dislike most of them.

I played the first three games recently and loved them. The first game is my favorite, people always said that the second was better but I liked the first more, got too lost in the second game. Curse of the Monkey Island is also good, there are some bad parts but nothing close to a dealbreaker.

Probably a matter of personal tastes, I agree 1 is more linear and manageable; I like 2 better over 1 specially for how sprawling and crazy it gets around the second act as you chase the map pieces through 3 islands' worth of locations. Also the endgame "fight" is the best in the series.

I love 2, but a major problem of it is the fact that they intentionally designed the game so that once you get the ability to travel among the islands, they make almost every puzzle in the game require moving between 2 if not all 3 islands to solve them.
