somehow I can't play the psone tales.
They simply suck compared to Tales of Phantasia which I loved it.
How could they make worse sprites than a SNES game?

Anyway, anyone was impressed when they discover the 20 century ruins?
That shit impress me.

You what?

The games are pretty much the same save for the improved graphics and extra content in the PS1 version

You need new glasses

And the fact that the combat is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT between them.

that's the point. The game was rebalanced and improved. Chester has skills now. It uses the battle engine from destiny. Much smoother.

ToD is the BEST tales game. Great GRAFFIX, great characters, great story, great gameplay, tons of random extra stuff, no fucking voice acting shit.

Well, for one, the sound system on the GBA was vastly inferior. That's not to say that good music couldn't come out of it, but you couldn't half ass your compositions or they came out shit, and remakes are almost always all about half assed.
Second, the GBA wasn't backlit, and creators had to compensate appropriately. On an emulator we can see the colours for what they are and they're shit, but on an actual system, they were brightened up to shit just in hopes you'd actually be able to see a damn thing through the glare on your screen.
Third, see point one about remakes being halfassed.

Short version: remakes sucked because the GBA kindof sucked. You could still find good games, but these required effort, and fuck effort.

It completely axed the somewhat strategic hit-and-run style it had in favor of the mashy combo style that defines the series today. Not to say that it was a bad thing, but that it at least made the game unique.

Yeah, that story up there about Goodwill? Apparently he went there to look for vidya while wearing some Pikachu outfit or something and shat himself in his diaper; wouldn't even bother to change out of it in the bathroom either. Fuck that guy.

How about we go back to discussing Tales of Phantasia/Destiny/Eternia, given that this is /vr/. Is there a strategy setting for Keele in Eternia that makes him less likely to just keep trying to smack the enemy with his staff, even when he has nearly full TP?

I've played ToP in this order:

SNES on an emulator -> GBA on a DS -> PS1 on a PSP.

GBA version wasn't so bad. Just had NES quality music.

It has a few useful additions such as Tech ring (manual mode) from the start, and faster text display, because original Phantasia's "fastest" text speed was still slow as fuck.

Not sure if you guys are interested but...Phantasian released this patch for those who want to play the translation on a PSP:

http://www.tales-cless.org/patches/ToP%20test%20fix.7z

Apparently you had to use popsloader to go back to an older firmware so you'd be able to play the translation (if you tried to play on 6.60, you'd get a black screen, because of the custom Playstation logo), but with this fix, you don't need to do that anymore (and the compatibility is better).

Cool. On that note, is that one of those "You can only download X images without signing up" sites?

>>834050
Is playing it on the PSP preferable to just emulating it on a computer? Curious, as the PSP has the controller built into it. Also, I'm assuming this is just for emulating the Playstation version, as apparently no one wants to recode the Playstation patch for the PSP remake?

He's...This is a joke, right? He's not actually doing this, is he?

Anyway, I always liked the PS1 version's sprites and graphics better than the SNES's. I didn't really think the SNES's were that great. Not that the PS1 games' were any better, but I liked the smoother sprites and (somewhat) better animations.

It's real. And I too have preference for the Playstation version's graphics, but the SNES ones looked quite good for when it came out. That whole game did a good show of what all the SNES could handle, even being able to have a voiced opening song on the cartridge itself (it was the only SNES game to do so).
