Just finished Shadow Tower today. Hard as hell.

I could never figure out how to use spells though.

I primarily went for a speed build.
Probably put way too much in strenght though when I would've needed it in defense.

Can this just be a From thread?

I just started playing Armored Core 1 for PS1. I keep getting bad scores and my money is in negative, at this point I'll never upgrade my core. I only upgraded the legs because I finished a mission that gave you new leg parts instead of money.
I'm playing it in moon so maybe I'm missing the point of some mission, I just try to destroy every enemy I see.

This turned out to be the best weapon by far.
Not that good overall, but it has a big bonus on speed and piercing as well as a super fast attack animation.

If you play King's Field and Shadow Tower you can really see where the Souls games come from.
They still have the same feel despite all the new and shiny upgrades.

>> No.830749

There is a translation patch for Shadow Tower Abyss, which was a Japan-only PS2 sequel to the original Shadow Tower. It's pretty good despite still suffering from the same "what are analog sticks" problem. Unique from all of the other From dungeon crawlers, STA actually has guns in addition to the typical melee weapons. I felt it was balanced pretty well, and it's actually one of the only pre-Souls From games I finished legitimately.

It was a very good game, but it was a bit short.

I loved the green-ish part with the plants turning the monsters into some kind of zombies. There are so many hidden passages in that zone.

Also, the sand area was creepy.

So just how hard are these games?

>> No.831015

>>831007

Not Dark Souls hard, but it's rather being all alone and somewhat lost and clueless, with an oppressive world and limited weapon durability...

>> No.831018

>>831015
So is it use your brain and be careful difficult or frustrating difficult?

>> No.831034

>>831018

Neither, to me. Just be able to adapt, memorize maps and sense when there might be a hidden passage nearby...
It wasn't really hard to me, but I've completed all KF and ST games, so I just feel at complete ease with those games...

>> No.831059

>>831018
I find them much more frustrating difficult than careful difficult. The games are very, very slow and the controls are awful. The exploration can get tedious and you are frequently expected to find hidden rooms Doom-style by just trying to interact with every inch of wall to find a hidden door, almost none of which stand out and in some cases you can even trigger nasty wall traps. The actual combat isn't too difficult, you don't get fucked by enemies like you can in Souls, it's more about environmental traps and status ailments like poison which you routinely find yourself unable to recover from.

These games won't try your reflexes or skills like a Souls game, they just try your patience more than anything as you try to find the macguffin that opens the corresponding door.

Slow games with tons hidden stuff: welcome to old From games. Damn I love this.

>Tfw you spent days downloading a Kings Field 4 iso from one seed and you find out you can only run it syb 10 fps

>> No.831762

>>831586
KF4 has some issues that need particular settings to overcome, I recommend looking up a suggested configuration for it. The game itself runs sub 30fps I think.

Are there different endings to Shadow Tower depending on your choices?
