I personally never liked Neverhood. It always seemed like a wacky hipster webcomic-grade sorandumb kind of thing, except I didn't have the buzz-words to express all this when I was 12 and all my friends were in love with that game.

Also, Skullmonkeys. Ha ha.

Why so negative?

Anyhow, you know what rubs me the wrong way? Doug TenNapel getting all the attention when this is actually mostly a Mike Dietz game. Mike approached Doug, not the other way around.

I'm hoping for a miracle, guys. Sometimes Kickstarters manage to bring in a huge chunk of cash right at the end.

And anyway, is there any rule against the devs pooling their private cash and covering the difference by pledging on their own KS? I know they need every dollar they can get, but wouldn't that be preferable to falling a few thousand short?

>> No.829728

Fun fact: Doug TenNapel is very, very /vr/. He worked on Jurassic Park and Jungle Book on SNES.

Oh, and Earthworm Jim, of course.

>webcomic-grade
I take issue with this.
Don't talk shit about a medium which can be virtually any quality.
Be more specific.

I think Molyneux added money to his own kickstarter so I think it is allowed.

>> No.829743

>>829725
I don't think Kickstarter cares where the money came from as long as it gets funded. Well, minus stolen credit cards or something obviously illegal that is.

Still, if they wind up 100k short or something, I don't think the devs are going to be able to spot that.

It's just silliness. Lolsorandumb is far more demonized in recent media and because it's a much more popular format since the days of Earthworm Jim.

There's nothing wrong with a little bizarre. Even Earthworm Jim had very specific themes and it wasn't all "TOASTER CHICKEN PANTS WALRUS." You fight a transforming robot made out of a garbage can in a garbage dump. You fight a snowman in hell, which is an absurdity, not "random." In Neverhood, you see bizarre landscapes, but is it really all that random? Probably more abstract or similarly absurd.

That's what he gets for acting the Micky.

Leave this part of the discussion to /v/. They are exceedingly good at muck raking.

You're misusing the word "absurd". It's not the same as "wacky". Absurd in art is the theme of looking for meaning in a meaningless world, i.e. looking for something to believe in when you know God does not exist and life is an accident. It's not about wacky shenanigans or non-sequiturs.

>is there any rule against the devs pooling their private cash and covering the difference by pledging on their own KS?

Most devs do that.

The problem comes when a lot of people cancel their pledge at the last second, and the dev has to rush to make up a bunch of $15 pledges or else their Kickstarter fails by a measly 15 bux or something.

So, throwing a cow on a trampoline to launch a refrigerator isn't lolsorandumb in your opinion?

It is an objective fact that webcomics are low-grade even compared to other comics. Periodic comic strips in general are the lowest form of comedy.

>> No.829776

>>829770
Please don't misrepresent my argument. At no point did I say there was absolutely no randomness.

Also, there is no trampoline. It is just a cow standing on a log.

Hey, at least the cow plays into the ending.

I.e., some jokes made sense.

Most of EWJ was lol so randumb. And 100% of Neverhood was lolsorandumb, even the soundtrack was stupid.

How exactly are you gauging "most"?

No, the stages each had a unique theme that typically stands alone. Most everything in those stages goes WITH that theme, at least until EWJ3D.

It's a bit of a shame that Doug's beliefs over gay marriage had to take precedent over whether or not the game got fully funded, but that's sort of the society we live in these days

When dumbasses on tumblr aren't shaming one person to hell and back, they're shaming another
