Having already familiarized myself plenty with the Persona games, where's a great place to start with the Megami Tensei/Shin Megami Tensei/MegaTen games outside of Persona?

SMT1 and 2 are amongst the best JRPGs on the system. Be sure to use this hack: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/907/

It'll make the game easier to take.

If you like those and have a 3DS, Soul Hackers is good, too.

Also, use the fixed version of the SMT I translation patch, not the standard Aeon Genesis one. They bugged the routes.

Did your ROM have a header? Run it through SNES 9x and report back. If it still doesn't run, it's probably the ROM itself.

I haven't removed a header in forever, but you can use SNEStool, right? Someone confirm/deny for me.
