Hey /vr/ I have to many consoles and can't hook them all up, I'm sure I am not the only one so what switch box do you use? Can you recommend me a good one that won't degrade the signal? I don't care if it has a remote but the requirements are it has to have s-video.

I picked mine up from Radioshack years ago.

Only has 4 inputs though, i need one with at least 2 more and S-video or component inputs would be neat as well.

>> No.829572

I bought one just like the one in >>829535 my problem is that I bought it from goodwill and it didnt come with the power cable so I can't use it until I find something that will fit it. I also read somewhere that it might degrade my signal so I figured I should just buy a different one instead of searching for a plug that will fit. The nice thing about it is that it has 5 inputs and they all have s video

>> No.829862

i'm using a sony sb-v40s. got it for around 20 bucks. 4 inputs and doesn't require power. im thinking of getting another one for when i get an N64 and just daisy-chaining them. hopefully this wont result in any quality loss

>> No.831146

I have an Intec switcher I got years ago that's almost exactly like the one in the OP pic.

It has svideo, is entirely mechanical and requires no power.

I have that exact thing, without the gaudy Gamestop logo. I'm not sure what the power adapter was for, since I never used it.

I had 2 of these 4 to 1 switches that I piggybacked
Worked quite well, but I seem to have lost one of them in a move

Not exactly sure what the person who took this pic was doing.

I have one. The better ones tend to be rather expensive, and I've seen even the shitty Gamestop brand ones go for about $50 online for a used one.

Think my current one is a Pelican brand one. Works pretty well and didn't cost much, as a family member saw it at a garage sale or pawn shop and remember me bitching about the old one I was using constantly fucking up.

I also use the sb-v40s. It has s-video inputs and output.

>> No.832131

I have a Terk VS-4. Works pretty well, but there's no remote, so you have to switch it manually. It's like a Mechanical Terk.

>> No.832294

I have one of those things OP, and I find it works pretty well. You find them all over the place (at least here) for like 5 bucks. I say get that. I used to just use a VCR with my TV to get an extra 2 consoles (hook a master system/nes up with cable hook ups and AV for whatever else)

I have one identical to that, but it has s-video ports.

Nice trips.
Op here, I was wondering if anyone has experienced any loss of quality threw switch boxes and if anyone knows of a model with 8 inputs or should I just chain two 4's or 5's togeether? Thanks for all the replies anyway.

On a purely electrical level, one switch box is bad enough. More = more resistance = diminished signal quality. Like copying a tape. 2nd or 3rd generation may be good, but after that, it's going to Shit Town in a turd taxi.

I have the one listed, but without the stupid sticker. It's a Pelican. Works perfectly fine, and has S-Video.

But I can't say much outside of that. I've had it for fucking ages.

Fucking this. I really need one with s-video AND component on it.

I don't know why, but that made me laugh my ass off.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone have any good idea how to deal with wall warts so they don't take up so much fucking space?

My goal is to have everything hooked up at once, but these fucking plugs for the older systems are so large, I have to trade the plug out every time I play a different system. Especially with the Sega tower of power and it's 3 wall warts.

>> No.833983

I found a 16 input switch on ebay... its a bit expensive but i'm using 13 of the 16 port on it so its worthy

>> No.833993

Make your own. Read up on true bypass and read some schematics.

>> No.834008

>>833993
That's not a bad idea. You could add as many hookups as you'd need.
Wonder what you could make the box out of to house it? Sheet metal?

For anyone that cares, I did some digging on Google and found this.

http://www.amazon.com/Power-Extension-Cord-Perfect-Transformers/dp/B000I2096U/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=6YM1XMUMXOEJ&coliid=I16PT1KSX4OZMY

In theory, it would basic work like the power supply for the 360, where the fat part of the plug would be in the middle then, and the actual part that plugs into the wall would be a normal size plug. Thinking about ordering some of these to try out.

>>834078
Or you can just use $1 extension cords from any dollar store.

I recently purchased this: http://www.amazon.com/Cables-To-Go-28750-Composite/dp/B0032ANC8M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1372098514&sr=8-3&keywords=video+switch+box a few weeks ago. Definitely gets the job done, 4 inputs all with S-Video. Don't notice any degradation of video quality, works as advertised.

if you don't want pic related dont do this.
Go to some hardware store and pick up some plug ends, then use an old extension cord to make them to length.

If you ever need a component switchbox, avoid the one in the pic like the plague. I've gone through two and they both have the same problem: certain ports stop working (usually the white ones first), and also the ports are a little too wide so they have a kung fu grip on the cables; that's why a few of the ports in the pic are ripped out.

I have two component switchboxes made by Pelican, and both work great. I got both at a Goodwill (separate trips) for about $7 a piece.

Electronic engineer. You're not going to start a fucking fire by plugging one or two AC adapters into a cheap extension cord. Game consoles are not air conditioners or microwaves.

Agreed. I have that piece of shit, and it was fucking off, which is why I use the aforementioned Radio Shack job with S-video ports.
