Im bored and decided to give the tony hawk games a try after the games spammed for the last few weeks. it seems that the most people say the 2 is the best one, so should I just skip the 1st one? people say it hasnt aged well compared to the 2nd one and its missing mechanics?

Just play those Dreamcast

>> No.8279728

1, 2 and 3 are the same idea with more mechanics added on top. you don't have to skip 1 but most people say 2 has the best levels and it plays well
4 onward are reworked as shitty psuedo open world game where you get missions by talking to NPCs, and they add stupid shit like walking
my favorite is 3

THPS1 is still fun, but yeah, it is the most basic and does not have anywhere near the amount of content that the latter games did, and its mechanics, while relatively solid, are not as developed. IMO the best argument for playing it is to experience its levels, and its soundtrack is good. Once you get the hang of the gameplay, and you find out where all the tapes and collectibles are, you can 100% it in an afternoon.

THPS2 is indeed widely considered one of the best, along with THPS3, and it's a massive improvement over the first game, with tons more of everything. If you have to start with a strong entry, start with this one.

As for versions, the Dreamcast versions are usually considered definitive, although the Xbox version of THPS2 adds all the levels from the first game and some extras on top, which is nice. It plays a little differently due to the faster framerate, though, and it doesn't include the first game's soundtrack, which is a shame. It also looks a bit blurrier than the DC version, which is gorgeous.

As for THPS3, play any of the 6th-gen versions, I think they're all pretty much the same, though don't quote me on that as I didn't play it anywhere near as much as the 2nd game. I believe the PS1 version is somewhat different since it's using the THPS2 engine, though.

Start with 2, it’s the best and probably the easiest to pick up.

>listening to retards that say games aged

also 1 to 3 is good, everything after kind of is somewhat mediocore imo

DC version of 1 is best, play the rest on PC

Is the Dreamcast version just superior?

PS1 version is just a shittier version of the PS2/PC/whatever version. No real point of playing it at this point.

ps2 was the main version. ps1 is cut down and tends to run like shit. same thing with thps4

different anon but for the 6th gen games (3, 4, underground, underground 2, american wasteland) the gamecube and ps2 versions are pretty much interchangeable, aside from one extra level in the xbox version of 3 (oil rig), which ends up on american wasteland on all platforms anyways. a fair warning though, every game gets progressively worse the later you go, so if you dont enjoy american wasteland after like 30 minutes its completely fine to skip it. most people in this board seem to only enjoy up to 3 though, and im biased on the games since i grew up with all of them
